Valerie Jenkins and Brianne Jenkins, daughters of April and Thomas Jenkins, and members of the Bright Star Christian School Concert Band earned positions in the Four States Bandmasters Concert Band held in Texarkana earlier this month.

“This is the finest Fort Stats Band in the past three years. These girls are to be highly commended,” said Richard Shanks, Bright Star band director.

This is the second year for Valerie Jenkins and Brianne Jenkins to qualify for Four States Honor Band.

More than 200 band students from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas competed for seats in one of the two concert bands or the jazz band and presented a concert in the Texas High School auditorium Saturday, Jan. 18, after 13 hours of rehearsals. They were rehearsed and conducted by university conductors and professional musicians.
