2 arrested in Como traffic stop

Two Winnsboro women, ages 44 and 61, were arrested during a traffic stop at 4:15 p.m. Thursday on State Highway 11 east at a Como convenience store.

The 44-year-old woman was the passenger in a red Nissan Sentra stopped for a traffic violation. She reportedly showed signs of nervousness during contact.

Deputies reportedly located marijuana residue inside the vehicle during a search, to which the 61-year-old driver, Marlene Abbott Johnson, reportedly consented.

Both women were detained. The driver reportedly stated the passenger had narcotics on her person.

Upon arrival at the jail, deputies reportedly located a white crystal-like substance in the back seat of the patrol unit and on the floor of the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office sally port.

Johnson was escorted into the jail, and a search of her person was conducted. A clear plastic baggie containing a white, crystal-like substance was reportedly located in her mouth. During the search, Johnson allegedly assaulted a jail staff member, who was sent to the hospital to be checked out.

Test results reportedly revealed the substance to be methamphetamine, and it weighed 1.44 grams.

Cumby traffic stop leads to arrest

Michael Lee Harper, 36, of Humble was arrested by Cumby PD during a traffic stop at 1:19 a.m. Friday on the eastbound Interstate 30 service road at a Valero gas station on a charge of possession of 4-200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

Harper reportedly told Sgt. Embro he was pulling into the station to check his vehicle, as he had just hit a cow. He did not stop at the scene or report the incident. Embro observed damage to the front passenger mirror.

During Embro’s investigation, he reportedly became suspicious of Harper’s travel plans and story. Harper reportedly advised there was nothing illegal in the vehicle, and he was on parole. Embro reportedly asked for and was granted consent to search the vehicle.
