Arrest on possession follows vehicle crash

Hopkins County deputies arrested a 55-year-old Como woman at 9:33 p.m. Tuesday following a crash involving a vehicle rollover on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 114.

Deputies reportedly received a call of a motor vehicle accident and proceeded to the location, along with Cumby PD, Fire and EMS personnel. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they reportedly observed Gayle Lynn Walker’s vehicle upside down in the center median. She was reportedly reluctant to exit the vehicle but eventually did so with her purse, advising her ID was in her wallet, which was still in the vehicle. Multiple wallets were reportedly observed throughout the vehicle.

While on the passenger side of the vehicle, deputies reportedly observed a broken, clear glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine with a white crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine in plain view resting on the door ledge and window.

Walker was taken into custody and reportedly refused to seek medical treatment.

Deputies continued searching the vehicle and reportedly located a chewing tobacco can with Walker’s name scratched into it. Inside, they reportedly found a small amount of suspected marijuana and a small, white first aid box. Inside the box, deputies reportedly discovered multiple baggies containing suspected methamphetamine, cut straws with suspected methamphetamine residue and a small mint can containing a folded dollar bill containing suspected methamphetamine.

While continuing to search the vehicle for Walker’s wallet, deputies also reportedly located two small bags of suspected marijuana, additional baggies of suspected methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

The suspected methamphetamine reportedly showed a positive result during field testing and weighed more than 8 grams.

Walker was charged with possession of 4-200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. Her bond was set at $25,000, and she remained in custody as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest and jail reports.
