Sulphur Springs woman allegedly drives through 2 lawns, strikes tree

According to police reports, a 24-year-old Sulphur Springs woman allegedly consumed as much as three quarters of a bottle of whiskey and drove her car through two yards on Saturday.

At approximately 11:22 p.m., police received a call about a vehicle crash in the 1200 block of College Street, reports read. Police located the woman, who had “been operating her vehicle eastbound on College Street and driven through two yards and struck a tree.”

The woman was allegedly “emitting a strong odor of alcohol from her breath” and “showed many signs/ indicators of intoxication” including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was stumbling, according to the reports.

The report stated there was an open bottle of Gentleman Jack whiskey with three quarters missing. The woman allegedly admitted she had drank “over half,” according to the report.

The woman allegedly failed all standardized field sobriety tests and was taken to HCSO, where she had to be placed in the violent cell due to being uncooperative, the report stated.

She was later released on a $1,000 bond, according to records.

Man allegedly drinks beer in pool, refuses to get out

Police charged a 36-year-old Durant, Oklahoma man with public intoxication and disorderly conduct after allegedly finding him drunk in the Helm Lane apartments’ pool and being unable to get him out without a fight, according to reports.

At approximately 3:34 a.m., police were dispatched to 309 Helm Lane in reference to people being in the pool after hours, reports said. Once there, they allegedly made contact with the man drinking a beer behind the locked gate, according to the report.

“The man was advised to jump back over the fence, but declined,” the report read. “The officer advised [the man] to stop cursing, which he refused.”

At that point, the report read, a manager came and unlocked the gate. The man allegedly had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Believing he was a danger to himself or others, officers transported the man to HCSO without incident, the report said. Once there, the man became agitated, the report read, so he was placed in the violent cell.

Sheriff’s deputies allegedly find meth, other contraband

Sheriff’s deputies found themselves arresting not one, but two individuals after they searched a room to find drugs actively in use, according to reports.

At approximately 10:14 p.m. Friday, HCSO deputies Steward and Patterson observed Jamie May-Gail Dowell, 34, of Dallas, enter a room at 1220 South Broadway. Steward stated in the report he knew there was an active warrant on Dowell, so deputies approached the room.

Upon arriving, Jason Paul Farris, 34, of Sulphur Springs allegedly told deputies he was renting the room. Farris granted the deputies permission to enter and search the room, according to the report. Deputies located a “loaded syringe with a clear substance, shiny spoon with methamphetamine crystals and [sic] field tested positive for methamphetamine, red straw cut with methamphetamine residue, and more than one item of drug paraphernalia,” the report read.

The total weight of the contraband and its packaging was allegedly 28 grams, the report read.

According to the report, after being mirandized, Farris stated the items belonged to him.

Farris was charged with possession of a schedule one controlled substance more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams, according to records. Dowell was charged with her original warrant, violation of parole. Both were transported without incident to HCSO, where they remain.

Police allegedly find 2 with meth, weapon

After searching two vehicle occupants who seemed nervous, police allegedly found they had weapons and more than one type of drug on them, according to reports.

At approximately 1:36 p.m. on Friday, Officer Pruitt pulled over a red Audi A4 during a routine traffic stop, according to reports. The driver, Sean Lee Cain, 32, of Sulphur Springs, and his passenger, George Edward Stribling, 55, of Sulphur Springs, appeared to be “extremely nervous,” Pruitt wrote.

After gaining consent for a pat down search, Pruitt allegedly located a loaded pistol and a clear plastic container of white pills on Cain, later determined to be alprazolam, better known by the brand name Xanax, according to reports.

During the pat down search of Stribling, Pruitt located a “clear glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine,” the report read.

Both men were booked into HCSO without incident, according to the report, and later released.

Jail transfers, other activity

Deputy Poteet performed an inmate transfer without incident of Earl Roderick Baker, 40, of Texarkana from the Bowie County Detention Center to HCSO. Baker is charged with felony possession of a schedule two controlled substance between 4 and 400 grams, according to records.

Deputy Poteet performed an inmate transfer without incident of Toni Leann Cupp, 44, of Mount Vernon from Mount Vernon Sheriff’s Office to HCSO. Cupp is charged with felony possession of a schedule one controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams, according to records.

Animal complaints

• An entire herd of cows out near Ridgeway Cemetery at Country 4748 at 7:03 a.m. Friday. Deputies were unable to locate the cows.

• A flock of sheep crossing the road were reported at FM 2285 in Peerless at 8:04 a.m. Friday. The animals were put up.

• A caller says his eight cows have been out for a week on State Highway 11 in Sulphur Springs at 2:29 p.m. Friday. Deputies were unable to locate the cows.

• A caller stated at 7:11 a.m. Saturday her neighbor’s goats were on her property at FM 2653 south in Cumby and her neighbor wouldn’t get them. The owner is handling the matter.

• A caller reported at 8:07 a.m. Sunday a miniature horse is out on State Highway 11 in Sulphur Springs. The owner is handling the matter.
