Sulphur Spirngs and Hopkins County law enforcement activity from 5 a.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Tuesday included:

Friday, April 5

„ Antonio Gabriel Ortiz, 21, of Duncanville turned himself in at the Hopkins County jail on a commitment warrant for committing aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

„ Robert Paul Garcia, 34, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 7:59 a.m. April 5 on Wildcat Way on a disregarding official traffic control device warrant. Officers observed sparks under a car along with other objects. When stopped, officers observed a mailbox attached to a metal pole being dragged under the car. Garcia said he’d driven off the road the night before and thought he was dragging his exhaust pipe.

„ A man was accused of harassing a woman. An offense report was by police.

Sunday, April 7

„ Jasmine Antwanee Thomas was stopped around 2:26 a.m. April 7 on Bill Bradford Road for a traffic offense. The 27-year-old was arrested on warrants for driving while license invalid, second offense failure to maintain financial responsibility, and unrestrained child younger than age 8.

„ Michael Dewayne Holiness was arrested at 8:59 a.m. April 7 on Calvert Street. Officers, aware of warrants for the 42-yearold’s arrest, located and took him into custody.

„ William Tizar Davis, 30, of Fort Worth was arrested at 6:15 p.m. on westbound Interstate 30 on charges of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and driving while license invalid with previous convictions.

„ Juan Pineda-Contreras, 30, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop on Broadway Street at 10:10 p.m. on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance. During a consent search of his person, deputies located a small, clear, sealable baggie containing a white, powder-like substance in his wallet. The substance field tested positive for cocaine and weighed 0.19 grams including packaging.

„ Tony Douglas Fouse, 59, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 11 a.m. on State Highway 19 near mile marker 242 after Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Rodriguez stopped him for no license plate on a semi trailer. Fouse was found to have an active Hopkins County warrant for duty on striking a fixture or highway landscape valued at $200 or more and was taken into custody.

„ Ulises Urias, 48, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop on County Road 2560 at 11:45 a.m. on a parole violation warrant for driving while intoxicated third or more offense.

„ A woman was accused of assaulting a man April 7. An offense report was made.

„ David Ray Rholes, Jr., 55, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 6:56 p.m. at his residence on warrants for possession of less than 1 ounce of a Penalty Group 1/1B controlled substance, possession of less than 1 ounce of a Penalty Group 1/1B controlled substance in a drug-free zone and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Monday, April 8

„ Juan Daniel Cortez, 24, of Terrell was arrested at 4:33 p.m. during a traffic stop on westbound I-30 near mile marker 111 in Cumby on charges of driving while license invalid and possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. He was pulled over for no front license plate on his vehicle. Cortez claimed to not have his driver’s license on him, nor did he have proof of insurance. A records check confirmed Cortez did not have a valid Texas driver’s license or ID card. Cortez stated he had a passport, but did not have it on him. During a vehicle inventory, Cumby police officers located a small jar of marijuana, along with several items of drug paraphernalia.

„ Police gave a motorist a ride to get gas for his Nissan Armada because he was unable to walk to get some. Upon arrival back at a South Broadway Street parking lot, the passenger kept trying to get away from and not be near the SUV, police noted in arrest reports. The things passenger Kenneth Duane Bowden said didn't make sense to the officer. A loaded syringe was located during a search of the vehicle. The substance in it tested positive for either methamphetamine or MDMA. Approximately 1.5 grams of suspected meth was found in Bowden’s back pants pocket. The syringe contained 29 unites of suspected meth. Boweden, a 57-year-old Liberty man, was arrested at 5:25 p.m. April 8 on trespassing and possession of a controlled substance. A drugfree zone enhancement was added to the controlled substance charge since it was determined the location of the original contact was located about 812 feet from a school.
