Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and emergency services activity over the last week included:

Friday, Jan. 12 „ Sulphur Springs Police responded to verbal disturbances reported on Alabama Street around noon Friday. A records check of one person at the location showed 38-year-old Justin Lynn Peek of Sulphur Springs to be wanted. He was arrested on outstanding expired operator’s license and leaving the scene of an accident charges.

„ Theft was reported at an East Industrial Drive business. An out-of-state license plate was said to have been stolen off of a Kia Optima.

„ Criminal mischief was reported Jan. 12 on Gilmer Street. Leonard Keith Hammons was arrested on Main Street. A coin machine was damaged. Items with what was believed to be the suspects blood on them were located. A SSPD business card with a sample of the individual’s blood was also taken, according to police reports.

Saturday, Jan. 13 „ Christopher Wade Travis was stopped for turning too wide while making a right turn. Upon contact officers had a records check using his license information. The 42-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested on warrants about expired registration, displaying expired license plate and/or registration and displaying a fictitious, altered or obscured license plate. Fees on the charges totaled more than $900, according to arrest reports.

„ Peyton Shea Oetting showed signs of excessive nervousness while talking with officers during a Mockingbird Lane traffic stop, resulting in police obtaining permission to search the car. A records check showed the 36-year-old to be wanted on an expired operator’s license charge. The Sulphur Springs woman was then taken into custody at 3:30 p.m. and transported to the county jail for booking. While being searched by jail staff, Oetting was found to have a bag of suspected methamphetamine in her bra and a glass pipe of the kind commonly used to smoke meth was found in a bandana in her possession. Because the woman was determined to have been in possession of the substance during the traffic stop, Oetting was also charged with possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance in a drug freezone.

„ Police responded at 7:47 p.m. on Rosemont Street, where they were asked to check on a person. Upon arrival, officers reported the woman appeared to be unsteady on her feet to the point she was unable to stand up on her own. She was held up while talking to officers. Julie Renea Littlefield reportedly admitted she had drunk a lot of alcohol. She was taken into custody and booked into jail for public intoxication.

„ County officials responded to vehicle crashes from 6:50 to 8:12 a.m. on County Road 2339, on County Road 1165 from 4:57 p.m. to 5:36 p.m., on FM 3236 from 6:32 to 6:47 p.m. and on State Highway 11 west at County Road 4717 from 9:43 to 10:15 p.m.

„ Theft of cash was reported by a Main Street business.

Sunday, Jan. 14 „ A records check of the passenger in a car stopped around 2:45 a.m. on West Industrial for a traffic violation revealed at least six misdemeanor warrants, two for failure to maintain financial responsibility, two for driving while license invalid and two for not paying fines on DWLI and no drivers license charges. Talea Nycolle Reynolds was arrested on all six charges. The 32-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was jailed. Fees owed on the charges totaled more than $2800.00, according to arrest reports.

„ Hopkins County Communications operators answered 143 non-emergency phone calls and 69 emergency calls. Sheriff ’s deputies responded to 58 calls for service, made 22 traffic stops and conducted one special patrol. Five people were booked into and three were released from the county jail, which held 226 inmates at 5 a.m. Monday.

„ Hopkins County deputies responded from 11:27 a.m. to 11:36 a.m. and firefighters responded from 11:36 a.m. to 12:03 p.m. to a gas leak on FM 69 south „ Hopkins County firefighters responded with Sulphur Springs firefighters at 12:40 p.m. to what was reported as a fire on Main Street at League Street. They were told at 12:50 p.m. to disregard the call, according to dispatch reports.

„ Hopkins County firefighters were requested at 12:40 p.m. to respond to what was reported as a structure fire in the 600 block of Main Street, but disregarded at 12:43 p.m., according to dispatch reports.

„ Officials responded to a vehicle crash on State Highway 154 at County Road 1178 from 1:31 p.m. to 2:29 p.m.

„ Hopkins County firefighters and deputies responded to a structure fire on County Road 2423 in Como from 3:32 to 5:07 p.m.

„ Hopkins County firefighters also responded from 9:45 to 11:09 p.m. to a vehicle fire on Allison Street in Sulphur Springs.

Monday, Jan. 15

„ Deputies responded to a disturbance on County Road 1170. Upon arrival they contacted Elijah Don King, who was discovered to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Deputies took the 27-year-old Brashear man into custody at 7:51 p.m. on the warrant for public intoxication. The offense is alleged to have occurred on Dec. 19. The fee owed on misdemeanor charge was $266.50.

„ Hopkins County firefighters responded to a gas leak on County Road 1115 in Brashear from 6:40 to 7:19 a.m.

„ Cumby Police and deputies attempted but were unable to locate the source of a disturbance reported at the rest stop on westbound Interstate 30 west at 10:52 a.m.

„ Deputies responded to a complaint of an unwanted person at a County Road 3501 residence.

Tuesday, Jan. 16

„ James Curtis Sims Jr. was reported for trespassing at a Main Street store for which he’d reportedly previously been issued a trespass warning not to return. A records check showed the man to have an outstanding warrant for violation of parole. The 62-year-old Sulphur Springs man was taken into custody and jailed on the charge, according to arrest reports.

„ Aware of warrants for her arrest, depties spotted Tina Christine Stringer's vehicle on Westgate in Como at 7:37 p.m. They contacted the 49-year-old Bogota woman and took her into custody on two possession of drug paraphernalia warrants. She admitted to marijuana possession. She had a cigarrette package with burnt marijuana cigarettes and a bag containing marijuana shake on it, resulting in an additional possession of drug paraphernalia charge, deptuies alleged in arrest reports.

Wednesday, Jan. 17

„ Brian Winston Johnson was transferred from Collin County jail to Hopkins County jail, where the 43-year-old was booked in at 1:55 p.m. on tampering with physical evidence and possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

„ Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies were made aware of a warrant for Jacovy Paul Gordon’s arrest. They located the 18-year-old at his rural Como residence and took him into custody at 10:29 p.m. for violation of probation on an arrest, search or transport charge.

„ Hopkins County and Brinker firefighters responded from 7:11 a.m. to 10:02 a.m. to what was reported as a structure fire on FM 2649 in Campbell.

„ County officials were alerted about a utility issue on Main Street in Cumby at 12:39 p.m. as well as a gas leak or water spill on FM 69 north in ike at 4:27 p.m.

Thursday, Jan. 18

„ Communications operators answered 220 non-emergency phone calls and 45 emergency calls. Deputies responded to 55 calls for service, conducted two inmate transports and made 17 traffic stops. Two people were booked into and 22 were released from the county jail, which held 210 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

„ A traffic stop on Bill Bradford Road before 8 p.m. resulted in a warrant arrest. Quenton Doneric “Q” Toney was taken into custody on a Titus County theft of property charge.

„ Police responded to what was reported as an active disturbance on East Shannon Road. A man was alleged to have thrown a bottle, which broke a window, breaking it. The disturbance was reported to be ongoing. They were given access to his hotel room. He refused to leave the bathroom, becoming agitated and argumentative. He resisted when officers tried to escort him out. He struggled, resisting. Joseph McGarrett Noel, 46, of Sulphur Springs was arrested for criminal mischief and resisting arrest.

„ Hopkins County and North Hopkins firefighters, and detuies responded to a one-vehicle rollover crash on FM 3236 at County Road 3510 from 11:38 a.m. to 12:34 p.m. One person was ejected from the vehicle and transported by ambulance to to the hospital. Texas Department of Public Safety is handling the crash investigation.

„ Hopkins County firefighters, deputies and state troopers responded from County Road 2402 at County Road 2391 from 2:38 to 3:39 p.m.

„ Deputies issued a criminal trespass warning for a County Road 2332 residence in Como at 3:18 p.m.

„ Deputies stopped 51-year-old Edward Lacharles 'Charles' Simmons at 9:05 p.m. because his license plate light was out, obscuring the license plate. He showed signs of nervouness and admitted to prior drug distribution. When he refused to let the officers search his vehicle, they called for a canine. Deputy Patterson brought his partner. K-9 Chiv gave an alert on the vehicle, giving deputies cause to search it. They found a canister with a substance that later tested positive as 0.4 gram of Ecstasy.

Friday, Jan. 19

„ Officers located Ryan Alan Gilbreath on Meadows Drive in Winnsboro and took him into custody at 12:17 a.m. on a burglary of building warrant.
