Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday included:

Friday, Dec. 15

„ Tabitha Shiann Weems, 21, of Winnsboro turned herself in at the Hopkins County jail at 9:04 p.m. to serve a weekend jail commitment.

„ Carol McClendon, 69, of Sulphur Springs was arrested on FM 71 at FM 3505 at 10:23 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Sorley found McCLendon stuck in the grassy road shoulder. She reportedly admitted she had been drinking before driving. She was barely able to stand and had glassy eyes. Horizontal gaze nystagmus testing was performed, but other sobriety tests were not, due to Mc-Clendon’s overall phyiscal state. She was found to be intoxicated and agreed to a blood draw, after which she was booked into jail.

Saturday, Dec. 16

„ Sulphur Springs Police Officer Roble Acosta stopped Andrew Ellis Lopez- Jones at 3:34 a.m. on North Hillcrest Drive for a defective tail light. While speaking with the 20-yearold Yantis man, Acosta noted he was unable to answer the officer’s questions and laughed uncontrollably. A probable cause search of Lopez-Jones’ Kia Forte revealed a bag containing dark and light gray dried stems believed to be psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushrooms under Lopez-Jones’ car seat. The Yantis man was taken into custody and jailed for possession of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance, the suspected mushrooms, which weighed 23 grams including packaging. During the traffic stop, the front seat passenger admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the traffic stop. Consequently, 20-year-old Ryan Austin Carrillo of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 3:50 a.m. on Hillcrest Drive for consumption of alcohol by a minor.

„ Jordan Alexander LeBeau, 19, of Van Alstyne was arrested at a Cumby convenience store at 2:10 p.m. Saturday. Cumby Police Officer Painter was responding to a call referencing a possibly unconscious person at the location. He observed marijuana and paraphernalia in the front passenger area of the vehicle LeBeau was in, which was parked at the gas pump. LeBeau reportedly admitted to having consumed mushrooms. A search of the vehicle revealed several items of drug paraphernalia and less than 2 ounces of marijuana in a clear plastic bag. LeBeau was booked in on a charge of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana.

„ Police responded at 2:25 p.m. on Helm Lane to a criminal mischief complaint. Officers talked to Elizabeth Annette Walker about a window that had been damaged at her residence. A records check revealed the 30-year-old was wanted in Fort Worth on a cruelty to non-livestock animals charge. After the warrant was confirmed, Walker was arrested on the misdemeanor charge, Officer Zach Davis alleged in arrest reports.

„ Officers responded at 4:18 p.m. at Walmart to a theft complaint. The suspect reportedly left in a tan car when confronted by store staff. Officers reported finding a tan Buick sedan with matching license plate number at a gas station on East Shannon Road. Melvin Charles Vonner, Jr., 45, and was in the car. Store video showed Vonner leaving Walmart without pay for merchandise. Vonner was arrested on a felony charge of theft of property.
