Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement activity over the last week included: Saturday, Nov. 11 „ Marco Anthony Rocha, 29, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 12:03 during a traffic stop at the intersection of Connally and Church Streets on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content greater than 0.150. Officers alleged in arrest reports that he observed a white Chrysler 300 fail to stop at a stop sign. Upon contact with Rocha, Officers noticed an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle. Rocha reportedly admitted to having just left a bar. Rocha was requested to perform standard field sobriety tests and was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office to provide a breath specimen, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.182 and 0.183. Rocha was taken into custody.

Sunday, Nov. 12 „ Guadalupe Lopez- Vargas, 53, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at the intersection of Whitworth and Ardis Streets on charges of no driver’s license and failing to drive in a single lane. Officers reportedly observed Lopez- Vargas, who was driving a white pickup traveling northbound, fail to maintain a single lane. He conducted a traffic stop, where he learned the woman did not possess a driver’s license. She was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County jail.

„ Jeremy Brent Newberry, 45, of Emory was arrested on State Highway 19 north in Emory on a charge of theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000. Hopkins County deputies reportedly located Newberry’s address and advised the Rains County Sheriff ’s Office of his location. Rains County deputies arrested Newberry and drove him to the county line, where Hopkins County deputies took custody of him and transported him to the Hopkins County jail.

Monday, Nov. 13 „ Officers responded to a call for service at Murphy’s Gas at 9:01 p.m. Upon arrival, they were pointed to Haydan Kaje Walker, a 21-year-old Sulphur Springs man, who had outstanding warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility, operating an unregistered vehicle, prohibited use of a motor vehicle in a parking area. Operating a vehicle without registration insignia and operating an unregistered semi trailer.

„ Police were watching James Wesely Whitworth’s residence, aware he had an outstanding warrant. They spotted him riding a bicycle at 3:52 p.m. on Van Sickle at 9th Street. He noticed officers and began trying to get away from them. They found him hiding in a culvert not far from the last sighting of his bike, police alleged in arrest reports.

„ Alberto Gonzalez, Jr., 31, of Mesquite was arrested following a single vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 30 at mile marker 114 at 11:30 p.m. Monday on charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while license invalid. DPS Trooper Rodriguez responded to the scene and spoke with Gonzalez, who was the driver of the vehicle. During their conversation, Trooper Rodriguez reportedly smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Gonzalez’s person and observed Gonzalez had red, glassy bloodshot eyes. Gonzalez denied consuming any alcoholic beverages. Trooper Rodriguez observed six out of six clues during horizontal gaze nystagmus testing. Gonzalez refused to cooperate with any further standard field sobriety tests, the trooper alleged in arrest reports. A search warrant for a blood sample was granted, and Gonzalez was transported to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital — Sulphur Springs, where the warrant was executed. A records check revealed Gonzales had a suspended driver’s license for failing to maintain financial responsibility. Gonzalez admitted to having recently purchased the vehicle he was operating, and that he did not have financial responsibility. He was booked into the Hopkins County jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and failing to maintain financial responsibility.

Tuesday, Nov. 14 „ David Alexander Mc-Cullough, 19, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at his Calvert Street residence at 9:45 a.m. on a probation violation warrant on a charge of possession of between 4 ounces and 5 pounds of marijuana. Dispatch advised Deputy Michael Chang of the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office of the warrant. Dep. Chang and Deputy Tanner Steward mad a follow-up visit to the residence, where Mc-Culloch’s mother directed them to McCulloch’s room where he was sleeping. After verifying McCullough’s identity and warrant status, deputies transported him to the Hopkins County jail. Bond was set at $75,000.

„ Paul Shane McCool, 50, of Dallas was arrested at the Dallas County jail at 11:25 a.m. and transported to Hopkins County on a charge of enhanced felony theft of property valued at $500-$1500. A cash bond was set at $25,000.

„ Marcus Scott Lanier, 41, of Bogota was arrested at the Hopkins County Adult Probation Office at 3:20 p.m. on a probation violation warrant for a charge of possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 1/1-B controlled substance. Bond was set at $150,000.

„ Courtney Lawrence Craig, 28, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop at 10:23 p.m. at the intersection of Cadi and Helm Lanes on charges of theft of a firearm, unlawfully carrying a weapon and possession of marijuana. Officer Dustin Green stopped Craig for a traffic violation and spotted a cigarette containing a green, leafy substance of suspected marijuana in plain sight inside the vehicle. A probable cause search followed, during which Officer Green located a small, orange pill bottle containing a green, leafy substance and a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol inside the vehicle. Sulphur Springs communications advised and confirmed the firearm was stolen, and Craig was taken into custody. The suspected marijuana weighed less than 2 ounces. Craig was booked into the Hopkins County jail without incident.

Wednesday, Nov. 15

„ Jason Glenn Petrea, 47, of Brashear was arrested at 12:52 p.m. during a disturbance at his County Road 1158 residence on SSPD warrants for driving while license invalid and failing to maintain financial responsibility.

„ Neal Ernest Rugg, 48, of Plano turned himself in at the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office at 1:15 p.m. on a bond forfeiture warrant for a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1/1-B controlled substance. Bond was set at $75,000.
