The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 5 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday and included:

Drug-related arrests

A Lone Oak man, 58 was arrested Sunday 10 p.m. on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A Hopkins county deputy checked out with the man at the 123 mile marker on I 30 west. Upon making contact, the deputy reportedly observed the vehicle to have two different license plates and the driver had no license or insurance. While speaking with the man, consent was granted to search the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, the deputy reported located a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. The man was placed in custody and transported to the jail. Bond was not set.

Alcohol related arrests

A Pickton man, 22, was arrested Saturday 1:35 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. Deputies reportedly observed the man walking in the ditch of the roadway while in the area dealing with another call. Upon checking with the man, it was determined that he was involved with the original call of an intoxicated person. After speaking with the man, it was determined after the horizontal gaze nystagmus test that he was intoxicated and could become a danger to himself or the public. It was also determined that he was a disturbance at a residence and had left on foot. The man allegedly admitted to being lost and was placed into handcuffs and transported to the jail. Bond was not set.

An Edgewood man, 20, was arrested Saturday 12:56 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication Deputies responded to a call of reports of a possibly intoxicated person on the caller’s property. A deputy arrived on scene to find the person sitting on an ATV with the caller. When asked what he was doing, the man allegedly told the deputy that he was trying to walk home to Edgewood. The man was asked to step off of the ATV and when he did, he reportedly almost fell. The deputy reportedly observed the man to have slurred speech and was having trouble carrying a conversation. The deputy asked the man if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages, and the man allegedly stated ‘yes, a few beers.’ The deputy placed the man in custody and transported him to the jail. A Sulphur Springs man, 43, was arrested Friday 8:49 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated, second offense. A Texas DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traveling 81 mph in a 55 mph on state highway 11 in Pickton. Upon making contact with the driver, the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was allegedly emitting from his breath. The standard field sobriety tests were administered where multiple clues of intoxication were reportedly observed. The man reportedly consented to a voluntary breath specimen and was transported to the Hopkins county intoxilyzer room where he then allegedly withdrew his consent. A blood search warrant was obtained and the man was transported to Christus Mother Frances. The man’s blood was extracted and the man was then transported back to the jail for booking. Bond was not set as of press day.

A Sulphur Springs man, 38, was arrested Sunday 9:34 p.m. on a charge of driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.15. A traffic stop was conducted by Sulphur Springs police for traffic violations. Upon making contact with the driver, the officer observed his eyes to be bloodshot and an odor of alcoholic beverages was emitting from inside the vehicle. The man was reportedly asked if he had been drinking and he stated “yes”. The man was asked to exit his vehicle and a second officer arrived on scene for translating. The standard field sobriety tests were conducted and the man was determined to be intoxicated. The man was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $2,000.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

A Fort Worth man, 38, was arrested Thursday 8:22 p.m. on a Fort Worth Police Department warrant for criminal mischief. Deputy Patterson advised over the radio that a vehicle with a possible wanted suspect had passed the ALPR traveling eastbound. An investigative stop was conducted and the driver was identified by his Texas driver’s license. The outstanding warrant was reportedly confirmed by the Fort Worth PD and the man was taken into custody. The man was allegedly accompanied by a rabbit in his vehicle. The man and rabbit were both transported to the jail without incident and the rabbit was left in the care of Hopkins County Dispatch with the man’s consent. The rabbit was later picked up by the man’s spouse. Bond was set at $1,900.

Breanah Green, 18, of Sulphur Springs was arrested Thursday 3:30 p.m. on a charge of aggravated assault of a date, family, or household member with a weapon. Sulphur Springs officers were dispatched to a residence on Randolph Street in reference to a physical disturbance. Upon arrival the parties involved had been separated and Green alleged that she had attacked her boyfriend. The boyfriend reportedly advised that Green had pushed and slapped him on his face. The boyfriend also alleged that Green had run towards him with a knife attempting to attack him. The boyfriend reportedly advised that he was able to get the knife away from Green and had walked away until officers arrived. A witness advised that Green had reportedly attempted to hide the blade from officers before they arrived. Green reportedly admitted to slapping her boyfriend and running at him with the knife. Green was placed under arrest and transported to the jail without further incident. Bond was set at $75,000.

A Cooper woman, 19, was arrested Friday 3:44 p.m. on a charge of theft of property in an amount between $100 and $750. A Sulphur Springs officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with Asset Protection who alleged that the woman had passed all points of sale without attempting to purchase the items she placed in plastic shopping bags. The value of the items was reportedly totaled at $183.97. The woman was placed into custody and transported to the jail bond was set at $1,000.

Corey Williams, 33, of Dallas was arrested Sunday 1:19 a.m. on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and tampering or fabricating physical evidence. Williams also had warrants out of Kaufman county for possession of a penalty group one controlled substance and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and an Angelina County warrant for theft of property. Deputies responded to an area around IH 30 at mile marker 114 to search for a stolen vehicle entering Hopkins County. The vehicle was reportedly observed traveling eastbound and the license plate was confirmed through communications. The vehicle had reportedly been reported stolen from the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies conducted a high risk take down on the vehicle near the 114 mile marker. All occupants were detained and Williams allegedly admitted under Miranda Warning that he knew the vehicle had been stolen. Williams also reportedly admitted to having drug para-phernalia on his person. The deputy allegedly located two half pieces of a cut plastic baggie reportedly containing a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The deputy also reportedly observed crystal like shards on the floorboard which were collected as evidence. Williams allegedly admitted to eating a “20” sack as the deputy was trying to conduct the traffic stop. Communications reportedly confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and that Williams had three active warrants for his arrest. Williams was transported to the jail. Bond was set at $31,500.

Aquilius White, 34, of Mount Pleasant was arrested Saturday 10:04 p.m. on a charge of evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle or watercraft. A Cumby Police officer reportedly observed a gay passenger car traveling eastbound on I-30 at a high rate of sped, 93 mph in a 75 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle came to a rest near the 114 mile marker. After making contact with the driver, White reportedly intentionally fled in his motor vehicle, eastbound on I-30 from a person he knew to be a Peace Officer attempting to lawfully detain him. White allegedly reached speeds of 125 mph and came to a stop near the 135 mile marker and was taken into custody. Bond was set at $5,000.

Christopher Brown, 42, of Como was arrested Saturday 8:34 p.m. on a charge of aggravated assault of a family or household member with a deadly weapon and assault of a peace officer. Deputies responded to a location in regards to a disturbance. Upon arrival, the victim advised that Brown had come to the residence heavily intoxicated and started an altercation. The victim alleged that Brown had struck him in the face and at one point had picked up a knife and threatened to kill him. Deputies reportedly observed an abrasion to the victim’s left eye and forehead. Brown was taken into custody and transported to the jail. Prior to arrival at the jail, Brown reportedly requested that he be taken to the hospital because he had allegedly been struck during the altercation. While at the hospital, Brown reportedly slammed his head into a wall and pulled away from the arresting deputy. Brown was taken to the ground. While on the ground, Brown allegedly grabbed and squeezed the arresting deputy’s scrotum which caused pain. After being medically cleared, Brown was transported and bondwas set at $125,000.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 595 non-emergency phone calls, 284 calls for service and 157 emergency calls. From 5 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Monday officers filed six offenses and conducted 21 special patrols, zero funeral escorts and 65 traffic stops. 14 people were booked in and 11 released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 185 inmates as of 5:30 a.m. Monday.
