The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Drug-related arrests

• John Coleman, 53, of Celeste, was arrested Saturday 11:53 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance. Coleman was reportedly stopped by a Hopkins county deputy for a traffic violation of an obscured license plate. The deputy made contact with the driver and Coleman who was the passenger and owner of the vehicle. The driver allegedly stated that he was driving Coleman home due to Coleman’s intoxication. The deputy reportedly observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage in plain view inside the vehicle. The deputy instructed both occupants to exit the vehicle and allegedly observed Coleman to have an open container in his possession. The deputy patted down the driver and Coleman for weapons for officer safety then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. The deputy allegedly removed more than one open container of alcohol from under the passengers seat of the vehicle. During the search, the deputy reportedly moved a cigarette box from under the seat and observed the box to be partially open, showing what was believed to be a pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine. The deputy began a probable cause search of the driver and Coleman, with a sergeant arriving on scene to assist. The deputy continued the search of the vehicle and allegedly located a small container wrapped in black tape with a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine inside. The deputy detained both the driver and Coleman then advised them of their rights, I.e. Miranda warning. Both subjects denied possession of the suspected methamphetamine. Another officer arrived on scene to assist in removing the open containers and securing the contraband. Due to the location of the methamphetamine pipe, Coleman was placed into custody. The driver was released with the vehicle with Coleman’s consent. Deputies cleared from the scene and transported Coleman to the jail. Bond was set at $5,000.

• A Paris woman, 37, was arrested Saturday 3:23 a.m. on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. A Sulphur Springs of ficer reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and upon making contact with the driver, allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted, and drug paraphernalia was allegedly located. The woman, who was a passenger, reportedly claimed the paraphernalia as hers and was placed into custody. Bond was not set.

• Carlos Aubrey, 36, of Commerce, was arrested Saturday 7:44 p.m. on a charge of possession of a penalty group two controlled substance in an amount less than one gram. Aubrey was reportedly observed by a Texas Parks and Wildlife-State Park Police entering FM 3505 headed to the State Park. The officer made contact with the vehicle at the headquarters of the park to explain how to complete an entry permit. The officer allegedly detected the odor of marijuana upon contact with Aubrey. The officer reportedly obtained identifying information from Aubrey and informed Aubrey that a vehicle search would be conducted and asked if there was anything in his pockets. Aubrey allegedly displayed a marijuana joint and later a baggie of marijuana. When asked if there was anything additional, Aubrey reportedly showed the officer a bag of ecstasy under the driver side floor mat. A paper sack that had additional marijuana was also allegedly located. Aubrey was placed into custody for possession and the vehicle was released to his spouse who was camping in the park. Bond was set at $5,000.

• A Dallas man, 20, was arrested Saturday 12:04 p.m. on a charge of possession of less than two ounces of marijuana and a charge of unlawful carry of a weapon. The man was the driver of a vehicle stopped by TX DPS for a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer reportedly detected the smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle while a probable cause search was conducted. During the search, a Glock 22 handgun was allegedly located under the front passenger seat, a baggie of marijuana was located in the center console. The driver allegedly admitted to possessing the marijuana and stated the firearm was a cousins. The weapon reportedly had a loaded and extended magazine, along with two additional magazines that were located inside a backpack behind the driv er’s seat. Bond was set at $3,000.

Alcoholrelated arrests

• A Sulphur Springs man, 24, was arrested Saturday 1:28 a.m. on a charge of public intoxication. The man was arrested after a Sulphur Springs officer was reportedly flagged down by a witness who stated they had observed the man allegedly acting suspiciously. The witness reportedly told the officer that the man had tried opening the door of his truck and appeared to be intoxicated. The man was allegedly observed by another officer stumbling across the road, and the officers reportedly smelled an odor of alcohol emitting from his person. Based on the subject’s level of intoxication, the officers believed the man to be a danger to himself or others. The man was transported to the jail without incident. Bond was not set.

• A Quitman man, 32, was arrested Saturday 1:16 a.m. on a charge of evading arrest or detention, and a charge of driving while intoxicated, first offense. Hopkins county deputies were reportedly dispatched to SH 154 S, north of CR 1196, for a three vehicle crash. While in route, Communications advised of one party possibly being intoxicated and acting belligerent. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a Toyota Tacoma involved in the crash with two other vehicles with minor damage. The Toyota was unoccupied and the other parties involved reportedly advised that the truck had been occupied by a lone male who had been passed out in the driver’s seat. Prior to the crash, the other parties stated that they had arrived in their vehicles and has attempted to render aid to the male. When the driver awoke, he allegedly accelerated his vehicle, striking the other vehicles on scene. The driver then reportedly fled the scene on foot. Deputies gathered all identifying information from all parties involving in the crash who were still on scene. Another deputy reportedly arrived on scene to assist. The deputies conducted an inventory search of the Toyota and reportedly located the male’s identification along with an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the rear floor. The deputies began searching the wooded area in the direction southwest of the crash to which the other parties involved advised the male had fled. The other parties involved were released from the scene. One of the parties reportedly returned shortly after leaving and advised that he had located the male sitting on a guard rail south of the crash. Deputies proceeded to the located and observed signs of the male traveling on foot west of SH 154. Deputies were able to locate the male and gave him commands to stop. The male reportedly continued evading until he was apprehended near the edge of a wooded area. The male was placed into custody and transported to the jail where he agreed to participate in the Standard Field Sobriety Tests. Bond was set at $5,000.

• Randy McCoy, 64, of Sulphur Springs was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated, third or more offense. Sulphur Springs officers were reportedly dispatched to a location in reference to a vehicle that had struck a barricade. McCoy who was said to be operating the vehicle was exhibiting signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech and glassy or bloodshot eyes. The officer reportedly conducted the Standardized Field sobriety test and made the probable cause determination that McCoy was operating a vehicle in a public place while intoxicated. McCoy was placed under arrest and transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $10,000.

• A Sulphur Springs man, 30, was arrested Saturday 8:11 p.m. on a charge of public intoxication. Officers reportedly responded to a location of Church Street in reference to a disturbance. Officers made contact with several complainants, who advised the man was being disorderly. The officers located the male in the area, who was allegedly unsteady on his feet, and smelled like an alcoholic beverage. The officers made a probable cause determination that the male appeared to be intoxicated to a degree that he may be a danger to himself or to others. The male was transported to the jail without further incident. Bond was not set.

Warrants, transfers and other activity

• Laura Ybanez, 19, of Sulphur Springs, was arrested Saturday 3:49 a.m. on a charge of burglary of a habitation and a charge of criminal trespass. Sulphur Springs officers were reportedly dispatched to a location in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the woman who allegedly stated that she was not supposed to be on the property and that she had been served with a criminal trespass warning. Dispatch reportedly confirmed that the woman had an active criminal trespass for the location and the woman was taken into custody. The resident of the location advised that Ybanez and four males had allegedly placed a PS3 in a bag but he had been able to recover it. The officer was later advised by the resident of a bearded dragon lizard that had also been stolen. Ybanez allegedly voluntarily admitted to taking the lizard. Ybanez was also charged with burglary of a habitation based on her alleged admission to gaining entry into the residence through a window and theft of the lizard. Bond was set at $25,000.

• A Paris man, 32, was arrested Saturday 3:23 a.m. on a Paris police department warrant for a charge of assault causes bodily injury or family violence. A Sulphur Springs officer reportedly conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and upon making contact with the driver, allegedly detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted, and drug paraphernalia was allegedly located. The passenger of the vehicle reportedly took custody of the paraphernalia. A records check was conducted through dispatch and the driver was allegedly found to have an outstanding warrant for the aforementioned charge. The warrant was reportedly confirmed and the man was taken into custody. The vehicle was towed and both occupants were transported to the jail without incident. Bond was set at $3,000.

• Veronica Bryant, 42, of Atlanta, Texas was arrested by Rockwall county officers on a Hopkins County warrant for bond forfeiture on a charge of possession of a penalty group one controlled substance. Bryant was transferred to the Hopkins county jail without incident. Bond was set at $20,000 cash only.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 845 non-emergency phone calls, 285 calls for service and 193 emergency calls. From 7 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Friday officers filed nine offenses and conducted zero special patrols, zero funeral escorts and 72 traffic stops. 17 people were booked in and 21 people were released from the Hopkins County Jail which held 168 inmates as of 5:30 a.m Tuesday.
