Alleged shoplifting attempt leads to man’s arrest

Kristofferson Alexa McKinney, 48, of Berry, Texas was arrested at 3:10 p.m. Friday at Sulphur Springs Walmart after allegedly attempting to leave the store with unpaid-for merchandise.

Store employees contacted police in reference to a theft. Upon arrival, officers reportedly observed McKinney exiting the store, passing all points of sale without paying for an item. Both store asset protection employees and officers made contact with McKinney He allegedly began to flee on foot and ignored officers’ commands to stop. McKinney was caught and detained a short time later.

Asset protection staff told officers McKinney exited the store with $229 worth of stolen merchandise. The man was also found to have several previous theft convictions. Bond was set at $5,000, and McKinney remained in jail as of press time Tuesday.
