Sulphur Springs Independent School District announced Friday that two students were confirmed with COVID-19 and a third student Tuesday at two campuses.

One student Sulphur Springs High School and two at Bowie Primary tested positive. The SSHS student was on campus Sept. 1 and 2. The first Bowie student announced was on that campus Sept. 1-3 and the second on Sept. 1, 2 and 4.

Due to privacy requirements, SSISD will not be releasing the name of the individuals or details that may identify the students, the district stated in a release.

SSISD stated district and local health departments have begun an investigation and will contact any individuals determined to be in close contact with the infected individuals. All students and staff who came into close contact will be directly notified as soon as possible, the release read.

Those who were in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread, the district’s release read.

School officials emphasized that while they do  not have reason to believe that those who were not in close contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, the following symptoms could indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

  • Feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100 degrees
  • Loss of taste or smell
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Shaking or exaggerated shivering
  • Significant muscle pain or ache
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting

If anyone associated with SSHS or Bowie of the SSHS does begin experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, the district encourages contacting a physician. The schools also request that anyone who received a lab-confirmed positive test for COVID-19 to inform the school immediately.
