Sulphur Springs Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the official instructional calendar for the 2024-2025 school year.
District staff voted on one of two proposed calendars, which were developed with staff input since the beginning of the year; the calendar selected by staff then was presented to trustees for approval, SSISD Superintendent Deana Steeber told the school board during the regular trustees meeting earlier this month.
The calendar includes 167 instructional days, equalling 78,280 minutes. Texas Education Agency requires that students have 75,600 minutes of instruction during the school year, so the upcoming calendar has additional time built in to account for unplanned school closures.
The first day of school for Sulphur Springs ISD will be Monday, Aug. 19. Staff preparation days will begin two weeks prior, on Monday, Aug. 5. New teacher orientation is set for Thursday and Friday, Aug, 1-2, 2024.
The last day of the 2024-2025 school year will be Thursday, May 22, 2025. High school graduation ceremonies will take place Friday, May 23.
Holidays for both students and staff include:
Monday, Sept. 2 — Labor Day;
Friday, Oct. 25 — Fall Festival;
Monday-Friday, Nov. 25-29 — Thanksgiving Break;
Monday-Friday, Dec. 23, 2024-Jan. 3, 2025 — Christmas Break;
Monday, Jan. 20 — Martin Luther King Day;
Friday, Feb. 21 — Northeast Texas Livestock
Association Junior Market Livestock Show;
Monday-Friday, March 10-14 — Spring Break;
Friday, April 18 — Good Friday;
Monday, April 21 — Easter Holiday; and
Monday, May 26 — Memorial Day.
Christmas break is set for Dec. 23-Jan. 3, with Monday, Jan. 6, designated as a staff preparation day. Other staff preparation days, during which students will be out of school but school district staff will report for work include:

Monday, Oct. 28;
Monday, Jan. 6;
Monday, Feb. 17;
Monday, March 17;
Thursday, April 17; and
Friday, May 25.
Early release days include Thursday-Friday, Dec. 19-20, 2024 and Wednesday-Thursday, May 21-22, 2025.
