The Sulphur Springs High School Band Banquet was held on Thursday, April 27 in the Civic Center Ballroom.
It was attended by over 300 guests to highlight and celebrate an epic year for the Wildcat Band, that included the group’s first-ever trip to the State Marching Contest, held in the Alamodome in San Antonio. The Wildcat band finished fourth place in the state.
“It is always an amazing evening where we get to celebrate the hard work and achievement of our band students. A special thanks to many of our amazing band parents for the beautiful decorations and work setting up!” Spencer Emmert, Sulphur Springs head band director said.
Major Awards of the evening: Rex Wilemon: Trentin McKinney (Local award in honor of long-time band director, Rex Wilemon).
Double Duty: Jocelyne Yanez (local award highlighting a student how has been equally devoted to band and another activity).
Director’s Award : Catherine De La Rosa (national award highlighting a student who serves as the ultimate leader of the band).
Leonard Bernstein Musicianship: Hannah Hughes (national award highlighting musicianship) Louis Armstrong Jazz: Ronaldo Sanchez (national award to the top jazz student in the program).
John Phillips Sousa: Aubrey Williams (national award to the top achieving student in the program).
Awards list: Several students were awarded a “Blue and Gold” Award for positive impact in the band: Matthew Brown, Kiersten McDonald, Lauren Maynard, Brooks Burgin, Laney Bankston, Catherine Starzyk, Ty Robinson, McKenna Meskimen, Paige Batterton, Jacy Barnett, Jenna Posey, Rafael Flores, Jencarlos Diosdado, Anthony Small, Nathan Bilyeu, Cara Batterton, Yurem Guzman, Diego Perez and-Alexis Villarino.
Concert Band Awards were given to: Lucas Shirley, Kyson Herriage, Anna Petry and Isaac Riley.
Golden Foot Award Winners for outstanding Marching include freshman: Kannon Gibson; sophomore: Makenna Jones; junior: Aydan Whittle and senior: Jonathan Pichardo.
Outstanding Class Awards: freshmen: Jaycie Arledge and Isaac Stanley; sophomore: Sadie Barnett and Brody Emmert; junior, Kami White and Mika Petty; seniors, Ryan Mitchell and Uriel Santacruz.
Most Improved Marchers: Paul Nowlin and Valeria Garcia.
Players: Justin Woods and Carolina Alvarez.
Outstanding Brass: Levi Caton.
Outstanding Woodwinds: Kate Hurley and-Caroline Prickette Outstanding Percussion: Lucy McKenzie.
