BRASHEAR — Department of Public Service personnel assisted Hunt County authorities early Sunday morning with pursuit of a suspect who allegedly stole a car and drove it into Hopkins County.

DPS used more than ten patrol vehicles to create a barricade on the Interstate 30 service road near Brashear, where the vehicle was reportedly stopped.

The driver and suspected car thief reportedly abandoned the vehicle following a wreck between mile markers 115 and 116 and attempted to flee the scene on foot by hiding in brush nearby.

Texas DPS Air was brought in and was able to direct Hopkins County deputies and Cumby Police Department personnel to the subject’s location by locating him with a thermal imaging camera on the helicopter.

“The subject was taken into custody without incident at 1:55 a.m.,” Hopkins County Chief Investigator Corley Weatherford said.

The subject was transported to the Hunt County jail.
