Great season ends
FORT WORTH — The Miller Grove Lady Hornets made their sixth straight appearance in the Regional Tournament Friday by taking on the Saint Jo Lady Panthers in the Regional Semifinals at the Billingsley Field House in Fort Worth. Though they had dreams of making it further, it was not meant to be, as the Lady Panthers ended the Lady Hornets’ season with a three-set loss.
The first set would begin with the Lady Hornets jumping out to a 3-1 lead early on. After the Lady Panthers tied the score at 3-3, the Lady Hornets would embark on a 7-3 scrolling run to pull ahead 10-6.
The Lady Panthers would respond by going on a 9-5 scoring run to once again tie the score at 15-15. This would be followed by the Lady Panthers going on an 8-2 scoring run to pull ahead 23-17.
Though the Lady Hornets added one more point, the Lady Panthers would score the final two points of the set, winning 25-18 and taking a 1-0 lead.
The second set began with a 2-2 tie early on. This would be followed by the Lady Hornets going on a 5-2 scoring run to pull ahead 7-4.
After the Lady Panthers tie the score at 7-7, 5-2 scoring run would put the Lady Panthers ahead 12-9.
From there, the Lady Panthers would catch fire, going on an 8-5 scoring run to extend their lead to 20-14. Though the Lady Hornets were able to pull within 24-17, the Lady Panthers once again scored the final point of the set, winning 25-17 and extending their lead to 2-0.
With their backs against the wall, the Lady Hornets opened up to fast start in the third set, taking a 6-0 lead. Unfortunately, the Lady Panthers would catch fire once again, going on a 14-8 scoring run to tie the score at 14-14.
Once the score was tied, the Lady Panthers took their game to another level, going on a 9-1 scoring run to take a 23-15.
Despite the Lady Hornets scoring one more point, the Lady Panthers once again score the final two points of the set, winning 25-16 and completing the sweep.
With this loss, the Lady Hornets’ season has come to an end. They finish their first season under Dalton Herndon with a 20-17 record.
The Lady Hornets also finish as undefeated district champions, bi-district champions, area champions, and regional semifinalists.
This would also be the final high school volleyball game for two senior Lady Hornets: Aleah Sotelo and Arean Wood.
The Lady Hornets will look to improve in the off-season and make a deeper playoff run next season.
