Jennifer Heitman, Mother Frances Sulphur Springs Senior Market Development, was at the Senior Citizen Center as a volunteer during a spirited bingo game. Bingo and all other activities at the center will continue as planned despite recent staff changes at the center located at 150 Martin Luther King Drive.
Meal-A-Day and other activities will continue as planned at the Sulphur Springs Senior Citizen Center after a change in leadership of the facility.
Karon Weatherman has resigned her position as Program Director after more than 21 years. Kathie Steele has taken over the office, but says she is a temporary replacement.
'I'm filling in. I have done it before when Karon was on vacation or when she was out sick. I worked for the city of Sulphur Springs 45 years. They needed my help and I'm filling in until they get someone,' Steele said 'I have loyalty to the City of Sulphur Springs.'
Steele said, 'I am not even going to pretend to fill her shoes. She (Karon) was very good at what she did and nobody will dispute that.'
From Marc Maxwell, City Manager, Karon Weatherman was given the choice to either resign or be terminated and she chose to resign.'
Weatherman stated on her Facebook page, 'I did something that the City didn't like, and they said I went against City Policy. I should have known better and I should have handled the situation differently.'
