LONGVIEW — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats Baseball Team kicked off their 2026 season last week with a non-district game and a tournament. During that time, the Wildcats played five games, winning two, losing two and tying one.
In their season opener, Feb. 16, the Wildcats traveled to Longview to take on the Spring Hill Panthers. The Wildcats suffered an 11-1 loss in that game.
As a team, the Wildcats batted just four for 19 (.211) from the plate. Lane Fouse, Connor Quick, Dylan Rosenberg and Mason Stillwagoner recorded one hit each. Deacon Carpenter scored the Wildcats’ lone run of the game.
Carpenter suffered the loss on the mound. Across three innings, he gave up six hits, five earned runs and four walks, striking out three batters.
Rosenberg pitched two relief innings, striking out three batters and allowing three hits, two walks and two runs (one earned). Stillwagoner failed to record an out in his relief appearance, allowing five hits and four earned runs.
Later in the week, the Wildcats traveled to Mount Vernon to compete in the Mount Vernon Tournament, where they went 2-1-1 in four games.
In their first game, the Wildcats played the Van Vandals. The Wildcats suffered a 6-4 loss in that game.
As a team, the Wildcats batted six for 20 (.300) from the plate. Cesar Mondragon recorded two hits, while Carpenter, Ryan Karr, Rosenberg and Stillwagoner added one hit each.
Mondragon was also the leading scorer with two runs, while Carpenter and Fouse added one run each.
Rosenberg suffered the loss on the mound. Across three innings, he struck out five batters, but also allowed six hits and four runs (three earned). Tyce Bradford pitched one relief inning, allowing three hits, two walks and two runs (one earned).
For their second game, the Wildcats took on the Grand Saline Indians. The Wildcats recorded their first win of the season in that game, winning 8-4.
As a team, the Wildcats batted six for 16 (.375) from the plate. Bradford, Carpenter, Fouse, Mondragon, Quick and Rosenberg all recorded one hit each.
Carpenter and Fouse shared the title of leading scorer with two runs each. Karr, Mondragon, Quick and Briar Vice added one run each.
Stillwagoner earned the victory on the mound. Across 3 ⅓ innings, he struck out four batters and allowed just five hits, five walks and four earned runs. Justin Strickland pitched ⅔ of an inning in relief, notching one strikeout.
The Wildcats’ third game paired them against the White Oak Roughnecks. That game ended in a 3-3 tie.
As a team, the Wildcats batted nine for 24 (.375) from the plate. Fouse and Karr led with two hits each, while Carpenter, Mondragon, Quick, Stillwagoner and Vice added one hit each.
Carpenter, Fouse and Mondragon scored one run each.
Bradford pitched four innings on the mound, striking out three batters and allowing five hits, three earned runs and one walk. Carpenter pitched one relief inning, tallying one strikeout.
For their fourth and final game, the Wildcats played the Athens Hornets. The Wildcats picked up a 4-1 victory in that game.
As a team, the Wildcats batted three for 17 (.176) from the plate. Fouse, Karr and Alex Whittle recorded one hit each. Stillwagoner and Whittle scored two runs each.
Whittle earned the win on the mound. Across six innings, he struck out five batters and allowed just six hits, one earned run and one walk.
With these results, the Wildcats began the season at 2-2-1. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Tyler to take on the Chapel Hill Bulldogs.
