FRUITVALE — The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles continued their playoff journey this week, taking on the Overton Lady Mustangs in a best-of-three Area Playoff series at Fruitvale High School. In the first game, the Lady Eagles fell short, but they rebounded in the second game, forcing a decisive Game 3.
GAME 1 OVERTON 4 COMO-PICKTON 3
In the first game, April 29, the Lady Mustangs edged out the Lady Eagles 4-3. Como-Pickton initially jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Lady Mustangs quickly tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning.
Overton later added two runs in the fifth inning, pulling ahead 4-2. The Lady Eagles tried to rally back in the seventh inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 4-3.
As a team, the Lady Eagles batted seven for 27 (.259) from the plate. Presley Hunt led with two hits, while Graci Adair, Sarah Corley, Cameron Kettwich, Ayla Oud and Saylor Smith added one hit each.
Hunt, Kettwich and Oud scored one run each.
Kettwich started the game in the circle. Across two innings, she struck out three batters and conceded three hits, two earned runs and one walk. Lexie Rainey suffered the loss in her five relief innings, conceding three hits, two earned runs and one walk, despite striking out six batters.
GAME 2 COMO-PICKTON 7

In the second game, April 30, the Lady Eagles earned a 7-5 victory. After jumping out to an early lead, the Lady Eagles didn’t let this lead slip away.
Como-Pickton immediately took command in the first inning with a pair of runs. After a scoreless second inning, the Lady Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third inning. Overton cut the deficit to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Following a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Eagles added three runs in the fifth inning, making the score 6-1. Another run in the top of the sixth inning brought the score to 7-1.
The Lady Mustangs tried to rally back with two runs each in the sixth and seventh innings, but their comeback fell short, as Como-Pickton capped off a 7-5 victory, tying the series at 1-1.
As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 10 for 32 (.313) from the plate. Adair and Oud led with three hits each, while Rainey and Smith added two runs each.
Adair took top scoring honors with three runs, while Hunt, Hannah Ireland, Martinez and Oud added one run each.
Rainey earned the win in the circle. Across seven innings, she struck out seven batters and allowed just seven walks, six hits and five runs (four earned).

With these results, the Lady Eagles are now 30-7 on the season. The Are playoff series will continue with Game 3, which is Saturday, May 2 at Fruitvale High School. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
