9.41 pounder takes top prize in big bass derby

Keith Carlile of Mont Belvieu weighed in a 9.41 pounder during the 11-12 o’clock hour on Day 3 of the Sealy Outdoors Big Bass Splash held recently on Sam Rayburn to grab the tournament’s top prize package—a fully-rigged, 21-foot Triton bass boat, RAM Truck and $10,000. Additionally, Carlile won $1,500 for bringing in the big bass of the hour.

Rounding out the Top 5 overall spots were William Noble of Killeen, 9.34; Skeeter Fowler of Grand Saline, 9.08; Lance Duff of Lumberton, 9.00; and Chris Rice of Livingston, 8.92.

The 36th annual “amateur only” tournament was rescheduled to Oct. 9-11 after the original event set for April 17-19 was canceled due to the COVID-19 scare. Sealy Outdoors’ Nicole Sealy said the tournament drew 2,000 entries. Anglers weighed in 607 bass over three days totaling 2,493.23 pounds—an average of 4.1 pounds per fish.

On the Red River, Dean Alexander and Thomas Martens, both of Cedar Park, won the Bass Champs Team Championship held Oct. 10-11 with a two-day total of 26.17 pounds on 10 bass. Keith Bryan and Jeremy Lambert took second with 25.69. A total of 193 teams representing the circuit’s four divisions competed in the tournament.
