M. Mitchell records two hits
The Sulphur Springs Wildcats ended their fourgame losing streak Tuesday with a 3-1 home win over the Paris Wildcats. After a close game through five innings, Sulphur Springs would score two unanswered runs in the sixth inning to take the win.
The first inning would be scoreless, as both teams struggled to put the ball into play. Paris would score their first and only run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Sulphur Springs would get on the board in the third inning when Alex Macias scored a run, tying the score at 1-1. This would be followed by scoreless fourth and fifth innings.
After Paris was held scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, Sulphur Springs would pull ahead in the bottom of the sixth when Austin Chaney and Grayson Hardy both scored to give Sulphur Springs a 3-1 lead. Paris would then be held scoreless in top of the seventh inning, as Sulphur Springs closed out a 3-1 victory.
As a team, the Wildcats batted 4 for 20 (.200) from the plate. Matt Mitchell led with two hits, while Chaney and Macias added one hit each. Chaney, Hardy, and Macias all scored one run each.
Kaden Mitchell pitched a complete game on the mound. Across seven innings, he struck out three batters and only surrendered six hits, two walks, and one earned run, picking up the win.
With the win, the Wildcats are now 2-6 in district and 6-10 overall. They resumed action Thursday, traveling to Paris to take on the North Lamar Panthers.
