Thurman 'Paul' Hitt

Thurman “Paul” Hitt, lovingly known as “Hitman,” age 76, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, gained his angel wings on April 16, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born on Sept. 22, 1949, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Cecil and Adell Hitt. On April 21, 1981, he married the love of his life, Melinda Hitt, who survives him.

Paul will be lovingly remembered by his children, Shaun Turner (Amanda), Paul Hitt Jr. (Nicole), Tony Hitt (Angie), Wayne Wilkerson (Minta), Melissa Bobo, April McConnell (Josh), Kristina Sweat and Mary Haas.

He was a proud grandfather to Zachary, Payton, Dusty, Trae, Astrid, Ozlynn, Levi (Naomi), Nevaeh, Madi, Jaxon, Jayden, TJ, Roy, Ryan (Racheal), Jason (Valarie), Tyler, Halee, Logan, Jacob, Allison and Brandon. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren and a special little princess expected soon.

Paul was known for his kind heart, his love for family, and his passion for the Dallas Cowboys. Win or lose, he proudly stood by his team and enjoyed cheering them on every chance he got. He also found great joy in gardening, spending time outdoors, and making lasting memories with the people he loved most.

Paul also shared a special bond with his many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends, all of whom he loved deeply and who brought so much joy to his life. Among those holding his memory close are Pam Prince and her husband, Jr.; their son, Jonathan, daughter-in-law, Sierra, and daughters, Lauren and Stephanie, along with their grandchildren. Also cherishing his memory are Franny Sprouse and her husband, Dustin; their sons, Dustin Jr. and Tyler; daughter, Delayna; and beloved grandbabies.

Paul is also survived by his sisters, Wanda (David), Dorothy (James), and Yolonda Williams; and his brothers, Aubrey Hitt, Melvin Hitt, and Jimmy Hitt. He also leaves behind his beloved fur baby, DeWalt.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Adell Hitt; his brothers, Robert and Harvey Hitt; his sisters, Onita Whitaker (Demp), Nell Purser, Mary Taylor and Joann Pruitt; and his son, Paul Jr. Prince.

Paul will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A gathering of family & friends will be held from 2- 6 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Heritage Park, 416 North Jackson St. in Sulphur Springs.

In honor of Paul’s love of the Dallas Cowboys, guests are encouraged to wear blue or their favorite Cowboys shirt.
