SSES demolition abatement to begin May 26

Construction representatives from Hill & Wilkinson General Construction announced that the abatement portion of the Sulphur Springs Elementary School demolition is expected to begin on Tuesday, May 26, during the construction update at the Sulphur Springs Independent School District board meeting on Monday, May 11.

Sulphur Springs Elementary

For the Sulphur Springs Elementary School, construction workers are still finishing miscellaneous items that need completion for the roof. Medal panels are still in the installation process, and the final connections for all of the rooftop units are underway.

On the exterior of the building, the gas piping for the reducing union tee is still ongoing, as well as brick installation in the rear area of the site. Window installation is in progress, and the grease trap as been installed. The main canopy is currently in the process of being framed.

On the inside, tape, bed and painting is still ongoing throughout the site. Tile, ceiling grid, lighting fixtures and flooring are still being installed.

Rowena Johnson Elementary

For Rowena Johnson Elementary School, masonry veneer is almost completed on the North side of the site. Cold-formed metal framing is still progressing across the building. Windows and masonry; tape and bed; wall tile and flooring; and metal wall panels are all ongoing throughout the site. Aluminum frames and the transformer are now on-site. Permanent power was expected on site starting on May 14. The work on College Street with the Texas Department of Transportation has started.

Having conditioned air and the completed TXDoT work are the upcoming milestones expected for RJE.
