| Food Truck Round-up
When you think of food trucks, you might conjure up images of big cities such as Austin, Dallas or Portland. Believe it or not, Sulphur Springs has its fair share of mobile or semi-mobile eateries, even if they fall outside the box on the idea of the traditional food truck.
La Vaquera is a traditional food truck, located at approximately 499 Main St. in the Cash Saver parking lot. The fare is traditional Mexican, including tacos, quesadillas and horchata. Owner Irma Sandoval says she’s been in Sulphur Springs for one year but previously had a food truck of the same name in Las Vegas for 15 years. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. They can always be found at the same place, unless they’re catering a party. They take both cash and card.
Tito’s Ricos Taqueria is more of a food trailer, located at approximately 115 Bill Bradford Road catty corner from Schlotzsky’s deli. The taqueria also features typical Mexican food, mainly the titular tacos. It’s owner Erubio de la Rosa’s first time owning a food truck, and he is in the same location “all the time.” Hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. They take only cash.
Slaughter’s BBQ Oasis, located at approximately 1000 Gilmer St. in the Fix n’ Feed parking lot, leans more toward being called a food shed. It was featured online in 2018 with Texas Monthly, and customers rave on Facebook about the quality of their food. They’ve been in this location about two years, and went full-time about nine weeks ago.Their menu rotates and the special changes daily, employee Lincoln Wiley says. Popular right now are brisket biscuit breakfast sandwiches and BBQ jalapeño poppers, he said. Even though they received four stars from Texas Monthly, Wiley said they “still are humble about it.” Their hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until whenever they run out of food. That’s usually about 1:30 p.m. Wiley says, so don’t sleep on these eats. They accept cash, card and check.
The Pink Stand is located at 1063 Gilmer St. They serve snow cones and claim to be “the finest ice in town.” The business has been at its current location for five years but has been in business for 25 years total. They are open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m., weather permitting. They accept both cash and card, with a $3 minimum purchase required to use cards.
Tropical Sno has two locations. One is at the corner of League Street and 901 Main St., and the other is at Wildcat Way in the Lowe’s back parking lot. They cater events, such as The Way Bible Church’s Children’s Church events and Sulphur Springs Middle School field day, according to their Facebook. They are open at the Main Street location Monday through Saturday from noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. weather permitting. The location at Lowe’s is not currently open. They take only cash.
