Man attempts to flee from officers

A 26-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested in the 900 block of Freeman Street at 10:54 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of evading arrest or detention with previous convictions.

Officers reportedly observed Jaquarius Oqeyth Johnson sitting in a red Nissan Altima illegally parked on the street facing traffic. When officers made contact, Johnson reportedly stepped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee by running away from the officers.

Johnson was caught and detained. Officers reportedly located a small amount of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.

Bond was set at $5,000, and Johnson was released Thursday.
