Cumby takes grand champion at ag mech

County schools place at show

Hopkins County students displayed their projects at the Northeast Texas Livestock Association Ag Mech show Tuesday at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center with Cumby and Como-Pickton winning top prizes.

Cumby’s team of Logan Miller and Fabian Camargo took Grand Champion with their hay bunker, and a team of Jackson Monk, Canyon Thomas and Braden Miller received Reserve Champion for their cattle squeeze chute. There were four classes for the show:

There were four classes for the show: farm, recreation, wildlife and farm shop.

Como-Pickton also won first in class with a tractor seat picnic table built by Alayna Chapman, Presley Cummins and Maci Wright. Twenty-four CPCISD students showed a total 12 projects.

Miller Grove students won three blue ribbons for their projects, including a picnic table built by Clayton Tackel. North Hopkins students also took home blue ribbons and received first and second in their class.

Sulphur Bluff students Sam Foley and Chandler Mooney won a blue ribbon for their fire pit, and Eli Ham received third in his class and a blue ribbon for his longbow. A team of Montana Hurley, Shane Johnson and Kaitlyn Harness received a red ribbon for their metal sign.

The 2020 Hopkins County Junior Market Livestock Show and Sale continues today through Saturday at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, and the Sale of Champions is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
