All the leagues at JP’s Classic Lanes are USBC sanctioned, and all league bowlers here are members of the USBC. So, what exactly does that mean?

The United States Bowling Congress officially launched Jan. 1, 2005, as the organization to serve adult and youth bowlers in the United States and is the National Governing Body for bowling as recognized by the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC). Formed by the merger of the American Bowling Congress (ABC), Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC), Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA) and USA Bowling, USBC is a membership organization that provides standardized rules, regulations and benefits to make bowling fair and fun for everyone. During the 2021-2022 season, USBC had 1,053,129 members and sanctioned 31,066 leagues.

The USBC offers many tournaments available to members. The best source for general information is the USBC website bowl. com. The granddaddy of tournaments is the USBC Open Championships, first held in 1901. In 2024, it will be in Las Vegas and runs from Feb. 23 to July 28. The 2025 Open will be in Baton Rouge, LA March 1 to July 27. The event includes three divisions based on skill level: The Regular Division, for those who average 176 and above, the Standard Division for those with averages from 156-175 and the Classified Division, for bowlers who average 155 or below. Categories are team, doubles and singles. By the way, I did send a comment to the USBC about creating a new division for bowlers with averages in the 176199 range. I got a very thoughtful reply indicating they are analyzing the data and that something like this might happen if warranted.

The results below begin with the Thursday Commercial League’s March 14 session and go through the Senior League’s March 20 bowling. The various leagues divide the season into quarters or halves. The standings reported below reflect the current marks, not the overall season.

After a reset in the Thursday Commercial League, three teams are unblemished with 4-0 records. They are Keeping It PG, The Shredders and Dirty Hands E. JP’s Classic Lanes’ General Manager Tarry Davison paced the men’s high game at 280, and Jason Parmer on the same quintet took high series honors with a 730 score. Rollin’ Dirty’s Adriana Brena shot a 190 for ladies’ high game and The Shredders’ Amanda Gunnels had the high series, tallying 479 pins.

Sunday’s This Ain’t Yo Momma’s Bowling League has begun their reset with six of the 14 teams showing records of .500 of better. Split Happens is in the lead, tallying 16-4, Adriana’s Boyz and The 4 T’s are within two points of the top. Kelly Shields, bowling on the Adriana’s Boyz quartet, paced the men with a 257 game and Classic Crazies’ Shane Wilson rolled three great games to score a 731 series. Brena showed something to the “boyz” on Adriana’s Boyz, rolling a 185 high game for the ladies, and putting together three consistent games in the 180s to take high series honors with a 550.

Spare Me remains atop the Fall Monday Trio League with a mark of 25 ½-10 ½. The Odd Ones, WWM, Sisco’s Crew and the Fun Bunch all have 20 or more points. A very familiar name, Debby Essary on the Spare Me threesome, rocked a 215 game and 587 series to lead the ladies. Russ Boyd, bowling with Stone & Gang, was on target for the men with a 253 game and 609 series.

The Fall Tuesday Mixed League reports two teams in the lead. Cletus’s High and Irish Pride have perfect 8-0 records, followed by Bowling Beaver at 6-2 and Carrie’s Gang at 5-3. JP’s Classic Lanes own Katelyn Shields was on fire for the Irish Pride four, leading the ladies with an outstanding 257 game and 728 series. Money B’s Doug Eitler crashed a 244 to pace the men and David Strain, rolling on Cletus’ High Rollers, tossed a 681 series to lead the men.

The Wednesday afternoon Senior League continues to be ultra-competitive with 12 of the 13 teams boasting records of at least .500, led by S & P and We Usta at 28-16, and Ten Down at 26-18. Lurch & Friends Debby Essary was white hot, rolling a 257 game and 682 series for the ladies. The Men Folk’s Jim Beard took men’s high game honors with a 215 and Mine’s In The Gutter’s David Vansickle put three consistent games together to score a leading 578 series.

Until next week, good luck and good bowling.
