The Art of Dutch Oven Cooking

The 20th Annual John Chester Dutch Oven Cooking Class was held on April 20 in the Hopkins County Museum and Heritage Park. The late John Chester of Dike taught Rick Wilson the art and now, Wilson holds this event annually. Over the years, Wilson has instructed a few hundred people on how to continue the pioneer skill. Because of rain, the class of fifteen students was taught indoors in the Winniford Building starting with the preparation work, while the coals were being prepared outside under a covered building.

Celebrating Earth Day

Despite the rain on Saturday, the third annual Earth Day had good participation in Sulphur Springs. Erika Mayorga, host of the event and owner of The Plant Niche, moved Earth Day from its outdoor location on the square to Texas Hops and Chops at 211 Magnolia Street. Vendors included the Wood County Beekeepers Association, whose booth was filled with information for beekeeping beginners. Speakers also gave talks onstage about bees' environmental benefits. Jason Waldon and the Outsiders provided music for the event.

Angelo State University fall 2023 Dean's List announced

Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, has announced the students achieving the Dean's List for the 2023 fall semester. To be eligible for the ASU Dean's List, full-time undergraduate students must maintain a 3.25 or better grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
