District 18 releases All-District baseball awards

Five take home superlative awards SULPHUR BLUFF — With the conclusion of Saltillo and Sulphur Bluff’s playoff runs last week, District 18-2A/1A released their All-District selections for the 2024 baseball season. The six Hopkins County schools in the district — Como-Pickton, Cumby, and North Hopkins on the 2A side, and Miller Grove, Saltillo, and Sulphur Bluff on the 1A side — were all well represented, combining for 59 athletes earning All-District honors in some form.

LONE OAK — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats continued their strong play this season by sweeping the Van Lady Vandals in their Regional Quarterfinal series at Lone Oak High School. In two closely fought games, the Lady Wildcats managed to come out on top both times, winning the series two games to none.

Bears lose Regional Quarterfinal series against the Neches Tigers, two games to one

TYLER — The Sulphur Bluff Bears saw their season come to a heartbreaking end this past weekend after losing their best-of-three Regional Quarterfinal series to the Neches Tigers two games to one. Despite fighting hard to force a third game, the Bears were unable to complete the series comeback, as the Tigers won the series and sent the Bears home for the season.

Lady Eagles fall to McLeod in Regional Quarterfinals

HOOKS — The No. 3 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles saw their season come to a bitter end this past weekend after losing their best-ofthree Regional Quarterfinal series to the McLeod Lady Longhorns two games to none at Hooks High School. In both games, the Lady Eagles were outplayed at most opportunities and couldn’t establish any rhythm, leading to their season ending.
