The $6 million bond for Sulphur Bluff ISD passed, according to unofficial voting results as of Saturday, May 4.
Sulphur Bluff ISD Background The Sulphur Bluff ISD bond will fund the construction, renovation, improvement acquisition and equipment of school buildings, as well as any necessary sites for these items, and to purchase new school buses. If approved, the debt portion of the school tax rate (the I&S rate) would go up $0.15 to $0.22 per $100 property valuation. That would increase the overall tax rate to $1.0055 per $100 property valuation.
Early voting in the SBISD proposed bond election was conducted April 22-30 at the Sulphur Bluff ISD Administration Office, and Election Day voting was held Saturday, May 4 in the SBISD gymnasium foyer.
Sulphur Bluff ISD Voting Breakdown
Sulphur Bluff ISD is located in both Precinct 3 in Hopkins County and Precinct 1 in Franklin County. In all, 153 total votes were cast, with 111 total votes in favor of the proposed bond and 42 votes against.
During early voting, which was held April 2230 at the Sulphur Bluff ISD Administration Office, Hopkins County voters cast 52 votes in favor of the bond and 42 votes against it. On Election Day, 56 Hopkins County voters voted in favor of the bond, and 29 voted against it.
Franklin County voters cast a total of three votes in favor of the bond and one vote against it. One Franklin County voter cast their ballot during the early voting period, and two more voted in person on Election Day. All three Franklin County votes were in favor of the bond.
Sulphur Bluff ISD Response
In a Facebook post at 8:36 p.m. Saturday, May 4, Sulphur Bluff ISD officials said, “Thank You to the Sulphur Bluff Community! Our 2024 Bond Proposal has passed with 72% of the vote. We are excited for the kids in our district that will benefit from this show of support for years to come! What a great place to be! Sulphur Bluff Proud!”
