Lions swept by Union Hill in second round

PARIS — The Saltillo Lions had their season come to a bitter end this past Friday after losing their best-of-three Regional Quarterfinal series against the Union Hill Bulldogs at Paris ISD. Over the course of both games, the Lions were outplayed at most opportunities and weren’t able to establish any rhythm.

SSISD to host sports camps this summer

With the summer rapidly approaching, Sulphur Springs ISD will be hosting various sports camps during summer break. These camps will help young athletes learn about sports and also improved their skills.

Lady Wildcats take ninth place at State meet

KINGSLAND — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats golf team capped off another successful season this week by placing ninth at the UIL State Golf Meet at the Legends Golf Course in Kingsland. They would score a 344 on the first day, and a 356 on the second day, giving them an overall score of 700.

BIRTHRIGHT — With each team’s seasons now in the books, softball District 16-2A recently announced their All-District awards for the 2024 season. The North Hopkins Lady Panthers, the runners-up of the district, were well represented, with 10 players and the coaching staff earning All-Distrct honors.

Haivala places third in 1A 3,200-meter run

Miller Grove’s Ryker Haivala takes his spot on the podium at the State Track and Field meet last Saturday. Haivala earned a bronze medal in the 3,200-meter run, placing third with a time of 9:53. He also placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:33. This marks the third year in a row Haivala has made it to the State Track and Field meet, and he will look to return next year.

Lady Bears finish in 12th place at State meet

LEANDER — The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears golf teams polished off a successful season this week by finishing 12th at the UIL State Golf meet at the Crystal Falls Golf Club in Leander. They would come up with a score of 502 on the first day, and then a 501 on the following day, giving them an overall score of 1,003.

Gonzalez wins bronze in 1A 1,600-meter run

Sulphur Bluff’s Christian Gonzalez stands on the podium at the UIL State Track and Field meet. Gonzalez won two medals at the State Track and Field meet, placing third and earning a bronze medal in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:31, and second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57, earning a silver medal. With these finishes, Gonzalez concludes his Track and Field career as a seven-time state qualifier and four-time state medalist, including winning the 2023 State Championship in the 800-meter run.

Lady Wildcats defeat Ford in Area, 10-3

COMMERCE — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats earned an Area championship Friday following a 10-3 win over the Ford Lady Panthers in their one-game playoff series. Throughout the game, the Lady Wildcats capitalized on most opportunities and kept Ford off balance, leading to the win.

LINDALE — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats’ season came to a close Friday after losing Game Two of their Bi-District playoffs series against the Lindale Eagles 4-0. Despite fighting hard all game long, the Wildcats couldn’t gain an upper hand, as the Eagles ended their season.
