PARIS — The No. 3 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles had no trouble in their Bi-District playoff series at Chisum High School last week, sweeping the Linden- Kildare Lady Tigers two games to none. In both games, the Lady Eagles started strong and never looked back, soaring to a pair of wins.

In the first game, the Lady Eagles picked up a 12-2 victory. They would jump out to fast start and kept it going to the end.

The first inning started with Gracie Thompson scoring the Lady Eagles’ first run, giving them a 1-0 lead. In the following inning, Paisley Watkins, Journey Brumley, and Bella Romero all scored, bringing the score to 4-0.

In the third inning, Addi Monk and Saylor Smith would add runs to make the score 6-0.

The fourth inning would begin with another run by Romero, extending their lead to 7-0. Then, a threerun home run by Monk, where Thompson and Lexie Rainey also scored, raised the score to 10-0. Smith would add another run, bringing the score to 11-0.

The Lady Tigers would finally get on the board in the fifth inning with a pair of runs, trimming the score to 11-2. After that, a run by Sarah Corley brought the score to 12-2. Then, the Lady Eagles held the Lady Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning, calling off a 12-2 win.

As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 15 for 33 (.455) from the plate. Thompson and Watkins led the way with three hits each. Brumley, Monk, Rainey, and Smith came up with two hits each, while Romero added one hit.

Monk, Romero, Smith, and Thompson all shared the title of leading scorer with two runs each. Brumley, Corley, Rainey, and Watkins all added one run each.

Rainey picked up the win in the circle. Over six innings, she tallied eight strikeouts, allowing just five hits, two runs, and two walks.

In the next game, the Lady Eagles won 13-5. In another strong game, Como-Pickton managed to put the series away.

The Lady Eagles once again were the first team to score, putting up four runs. Romero, Thompson, Aubrey Martinez, and Smith all scored, giving the Lady Eagles a 4-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers would score three runs in the second inning, trimming the score to 4-3. The Lady Eagles would respond with five runs in the third inning. Smith, Thompson, Martinez, Monk, and Watkins all came one, raising the score to 9-3.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Lady Tigers added another run in the top of the fifth inning, cutting the score to 9-4. The Lady Eagles added another run in the bottom of the fifth inning, extending their lead to 10-5.

The Lady Eagles added on three more runs in the sixth inning. Monk, Smith, and Corley all scored, bringing the score to 13-5. After a scoreless seventh inning, the game ended, as the Lady Eagles won the game 13-5 and the series 2-0.

As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 13 for 32 (.406) from the plate. Rainey and Watkins were the leading hitters with three each. Smith added two hits, while Brumley, Sanay Diaz, Monk, Romero, and Thompson all added one hit each.

Smith finished as the leading scorer with three runs. Martinez, Monk, Thompson, and Watkins added two runs each, while Corley and Romero contributed one run a piece.

Rainey once again earned the victory in the circle. Across five innings, she allowed just eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks, recording one strikeout. Monk pitched the final two innings in relief, conceding just two runs and one hit, also tallying a strikeout.

With these win, the Lady Eagles improved to 31-3 overall. They also advanced to the Area round of the playoffs.

The Lady Eagles will play the Frankston Maidens in a best-of-three series at Grand Saline High School for the second round of the playoffs. Game one is Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m. Game two is Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. Game three, if needed, would be Saturday, with time to be determined.
