Interstate Body Shop has agreed to sponsor the summer youth league at JP’s Classic Lanes in Sulphur Springs. The generosity of Interstate’s proprietor, Chuck Sickles, will provide a great incentive for young bowlers to participate. Remember, these kids are the future of our sport and if they are encouraged early, it might just lead to a lifetime hobby of bowling. I’m sure many of us began bowling in junior leagues.
Here is one great incentive for young bowlers: any youth who signs up for the league and participates through the summer will receive a bowling ball. JP’s Classic Lanes will provide the fitting and drilling for the ball.
The Youth/Adult league will bowl on Monday evenings starting at 7:00 pm. A league meeting will be held June 3 at 6:30 pm to discuss league rules and bowling will begin immediately afterward. The league will compete each Monday from June 3 through Aug. 12. Teams will be three-member squads of any combination of youth and adults, with at least one youth and one adult.
Now is a great time to sign up for this – and any of the other summer leagues – by visiting the lanes and checking with desk personnel to register.
The results below begin with the Thursday Commercial League’s April 25 session and go through the Senior League’s May 1 bowling. The various leagues divide the season into quarters or halves. The standings reported below reflect the current marks, not the overall season.
Graham International stormed to a first-place tie with Rollin’ Dirty in the Thursday Commercial League, both sporting 20-8 records. The Pawn Shop stumbled a bit, but is still holding down second with a mark of 18-10. Victor Arcos of Grip-N-Rip repeated last week’s success, rolling a 278 (last week was 279) to pace the men. Jason Parmer, brother of JP’s owner Justin and a USBC certified coach, scorched a 743 series for Graham International to lead the men. Dirty Hands E saw Ruth Renteria roll a 191 for ladies’ game honors and Kyra Jenkins on the Tierra del Sol squad continued her torrid pace with a 543 high ladies’ series.
Full Throttle kept their motor revving, taking all four points to lead the Sunday This Ain’t Yo Momma’s Bowling League standings with a 33-11 tally. Split Happens surged forward to claim the second spot, barely behind with a 32-12 record. Trainwreck’s Mini-Me’s Derek McClure blasted a 279 for men’s honors and Classic Crazies watched Shayne Wilson pop a 671 to lead the men’s series scoring. Adriana Brena, appropriately bowling on the Adriana’s Boyz squad, took both honors for the ladies, tallying a 201 game and 502 series.
WWM remains the team to beat in the Monday Trio League, posting a 19-5 reset mark. Stone & Gang and Sisco’s Crew are within shouting distance, but they will have to raise their voices to overtake the leader. Cory Miller was part of WWM’s success, crashing a 267 game and 663 series to lead men’s scoring. Perennial high scorer Debby Essary on the Spare Me threesome again took ladies’ accolades with a 197 game and 557 series.
Cletus’s High Rollers came back strong this week to take the standalone lead in the Tuesday Mixed League, showing a 21-11 reset record. Carrie’s Gang and Irish Pride faltered a bit but remained in contention with 18 ½-13 ½ and 18-14 marks respectively. Thompson’s Tornado at 17 ½-14 ½ could potentially storm into contention with a big week. JP’s Classic Lane’s General Manager Tarry Davison on the Money B! crew, rocked a 278 game and 690 series to secure high game and series for the men. Carrie Shields was the class of the ladies, crashing a big 254 game and 576 series for Carrie’s Gang.
The second half reset winner for the Wednesday afternoon Senior League will come down to Livin’ On A Spare, currently in first place with a mark of 45-23 or Mine’s In Tha Gutter showing a 43 ½-24 ½ record. These two teams will battle each other next week. Joe Skaggs on the S&P foursome had a stellar outing, blasting a 236 game and 639 series to lead the men. One of Jerry Joe’s ladies, Gladys McClanahan, rolled a very nice 182 to pace the ladies and Mine’s In Tha Gutter’s Lori Guffey again appears among the leaders, knocking out a 508 series.
