Texas Rural Education Association over the last week announced as 2023 Superintendent OTY Finalists Dr. Greg Bower, Como-Pickton CISD, and Shelly Slaughter, Cumby ISD, as well as Michael Alphin of Harmony ISD (a former Yantis ISD instructor and administrator), Holly Campbell, Gordon ISD; David Hayward, Damon Independent School District; and Dr. Cassidy McBrayer, Hawley ISD.

“I am very honored to be nominated by our outstanding board. It is because of them that we have accomplished all that we have, and they make it easy excited about continuing to serve Cumby, and I cannot wait to see all of the wonderful things 2023-2024 has in store,” said Slaughter.

“I'm proud to be named a finalist for this award. I feel that the Lord has showered me with favor each and every day I step foot on our incredible little campus. There are so many awesome schools in our state, but I happen to be partial to this one. I love our school board, our staff, our two communities, but more especially, I love our students,' Bower said. 'I thank God every single day for allowing me to be their superintendent,.'
