Military service members and veterans are invited to show their appreciation and affection to their spouses on the home front on Military Spouse Appreciation Day, May 8.

The day honors the contributions, support and sacrifices made by the spouses of military service members and veterans. America’s military spouses are the backbone of the families who support our troops during mission, deployment, reintegration and reset. The commitment and support spouses provide help keep our country to be strong and safe.

Military service members are often away on duty and on average move to a new location every two to four years.

“The military spouse is the one who holds the home together while their service member is absent. They regularly must act as a single-parent, a teacher, a role model, a minister, a confidant, a leader, and an ally for others in the same situation. The strength of a military spouse lies in their ability to adapt and overcome,” said Texas Veterans Commission Executive Director and Army veteran Tom Palladino.
