Traffic stop ends with possession arrests

A traffic stop for an equipment violation on FM 69 south at County Road 2463 at 2:49 a.m. Friday led to arrests for two people on possession charges.

Deputies reportedly stopped a white Chevy pickup for license plate lights not functioning. The driver, April Nicole Phillips, 40, of Clarksville reportedly showed signs of nervousness while retrieving her proof of insurance.

When deputies obtained consent to search the vehicle, Phillips reportedly told them there was methamphetamine in a black bag inside the center console. Deputies located the contraband, which a field test determined to be methamphetamine, along with a glass pipe containing residue and a torch lighter. The contraband weighed 0.5 grams.

The passenger, Charles Vensont McFadden, of Quitman reportedly admitted to having a small amount of marijuana in his sock, as well as methamphetamine hidden in his wallet. Deputies reportedly located 0.0402 ounces of suspected marijuana, along with suspected methamphetamine, which later field tested positive and weighed 0.05 grams, folded into a $1 bill.

Bond was set at $5,000 each, and both remained in jail as of press time Friday.
