TERRELL- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats soccer team had a very busy weekend, competing in the Terrell tournament.

The Wildcats ended up playing four games over three days, starting with a 1-0 loss to Kilgore Thursday. They gave up a goal in the first few minutes of the game and were never able to even things up, according to coach Alexi Upton.

The Wildcats had chance to get back in the win column with a pair of games Friday, starting with a game against Sunnyvale. David Moreno got things started for Sulphur Springs, scoring on an assist from Alejandro Diosdado. Omar Hernandez followed up with a goal of his own, thanks to an assist from Joel Pasion, before Moreno scored his second goal of the day, leading Sulphur Springs to a 3-0 win.

Later that same day the Wildcats took on Paris who entered the day with a record of 7-0. The Wildcats offense continued to roll as they scored another three goals, beating Paris by a score of 3-1. Angel Andino scored the first Sulphur Springs goal of the day. Alejandro Diosdado followed with a goal on an assist from Alex Yanez, before Edgar Salazar found the back of the net on an unassisted goal.

“What an amazing game. We came out and got after it. I’m so proud of our boys,” Upton said.

Finally Saturday the Wildcats took on the host school, Terrell, in the championship, where Hernandez had an amazing outing. Hernandez scored the first two goals of the game, and found Alex Yanez for the third goal, leading to a 3-0 win.

“We played amazing! We struck first, and we balled out,” Upton said. “Omar Hernandez had an amazing game, and every player that came in did great. Everything went right, and we won a trophy. I’m so proud of these boys.”

The Wildcats walk away from the weekend, not only as the Terrell Tournament champions, but with a record of 8-4-1 as well. Sulphur Springs begins district play Friday with a home game against Longview. The varsity is set to begin at 7:15 p.m.
