TEXARKANA- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats traveled to Texas High for a district match Friday. Texas High was the last district opponent that Sulphur Springs had yet to face this season.

Senior Boo Wilkerson started the game off by knocking down a 3-pointer to get the Wildcats on the board first. The Wildcats were able to create a bit of separation in the second quarter when senior Lamodrick Johnson made a pair of layups to push their lead to 21-10. Wilkerson and junior Justin Haire picked up assists on the Johnson layups.

After a big run from Texas High which gave them the lead, Wilkerson put Sulphur Springs back ahead with another 3-pointer to make the game 24-22. Fellow senior Malique Cole knocked down a 3-pointer as well, thanks to an assist from Caleb Alexander to make the score 29-26 late in the half.

Alexander drained a 3-pointer of his own early in the second half to go ahead 41-39. With neither team able to gain much of advantage over the other, sophomore Kordrick Turner hit a 3-pointer of his own to go ahead 48-45.

In a game that eventually went to overtime, the Wildcats were able to dominate the extra period, rolling their way to a 67-58 win.

Johnson was the leading scorer for Sulphur Springs, posting 19 points as well as a number of assists. Wilkerson and Turner also finished in double-digits, having 15 points and 11 points respectively.

Haire was right behind them with eight points, while Alexander had five points, Parker Whisenhunt had four points, Cole had three points and Bull Turner had two points.

After a pair of buzzer beating losses to Longview and Mount Pleasant, the Wildcats get back into the win column, making them 12-8 and 3-2 in district play.

Sulphur Springs will be on the road Friday, to face Pine Tree for the second time this season. The Wildcats had no trouble wining the first match, beating them by a final score of 74-55. The varsity is set to begin at 7 p.m.
