The Sulphur Springs Wildcats will travel to Toyota Stadium in Frisco Friday, for their season opener against Frisco Wakeland. Sulphur Springs and Wakeland have opened their seasons against each other in each of the past two seasons, with Sulphur Springs winning in 2018, 37-35, and Wakeland winning in 2019, 53-17.

Sulphur Springs hosted Mount Pleasant in a three-quarter scrimmage last week that ended in a 14-14 tie. The Wildcats’ offense started off hot, scoring on each of their first two possessions.

Sulphur Springs’ running back Caden Davis capped off the first drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, while quarterback Kaden Wallace was able to find Matthew Sherman for a 24-yard touchdown pass on the second drive.

The defense stood out in the final two quarters, with the Wildcats allowing just one score that came during the third quarter. Sulphur Springs’ safety Wiley Bennett intercepted a ball late to keep things tied up at 14-14.

The Wildcats could have their work cut out for them against a Wakeland team that opened their season with a 3-1 record last season. The Wolverines would go on to finish their season with a 5-6 record, including a 33- 10 loss to Highland Park in the opening round of the playoffs.

Sulphur Springs will seek their first season opening win since they beat Frisco Wakeland, 37-35, in 2018. The Wildcats went on to open their season 5-0 and earned a trip to the playoffs, where they fell short in the opening round.

Sulphur Springs and Frisco Wakeland will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.
