Johnson, Turner finish in double-digits

OAK CLIFF- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats traveled to Oak Cliff Tuesday to face The Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy for a non-district match. Both teams entered the game with winning records with Sulphur Springs at 7-4 and Faith Family Academy at 7-3.

Sulphur Springs started slow in the game, trailing 13-4 in the opening minutes, but closed the gap to 17-11 by the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was very tightly contested, with both teams scoring just eight points. The Wildcats went into the locker room trailing 25-19 at the end of the first half.

Faith Family Academy was able to create some separation in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 20-8. Sulphur Springs tried their best to stay in the game, but ultimately fell by a final score of 63-37.

Senior Lamodrick Johnson was the Wildcats leading scorer, finishing with 13 points. Sophomore Kodrick Turner also finished in double-digits, posting a 10-point performance.

Junior Justin Haire had five points of his own, while Boo Wilkerson, Cason Arrington and Parker Whisenhunt each had two points.

The loss was the first for the Wildcats since Dec. 8 when they fell to Naaman Forest by one point. Since then Sulphur Springs has defeated Royse City, 57-38, and Mesquite Horn, 52-43.

The Wildcats have been on fire over the last few weeks, winning six of their last eight games. They will return home Tuesday to host Pine Tree for their district opener, before having a week off for Christmas break. The freshman team will begin at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity teams to follow.
