Beat Hallsville, fall to Longview

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats had a back-to-back this weekend, starting with a road trip to Hallsivlle Friday, followed by a home game against Longview Saturday.

After falling on the road Tuesday to Nacogdoches, the Wildcats bounced back, beating Hallsivlle 51-35 Friday. Senior Boo Wilkerson and junior Justin Haire were the leading scores, each posting 11 points. Just behind them was sophomore Kordrick Turner who had nine points.

Other scores for Sulphur Springs were Lamodrick Johnson with five points, Caleb Alexander and Jatavion Hall with four points each, Ben Hatcher who had three points, and Malique Cole and Parker Whisenhunt who each had two points.

The Wildcats turned around and hosted Longview the next day, in a game that came down to the wire. In a close game the entire way, the Wildcats lost on a buzzer beater, their second of the season, falling to Longview 56-54. Sulphur Springs also lost on a buzzer beater to Naaman Forest back on Dec. 8 when they lost by a final score of 62-61.

Haire and Turner were the leading scorers this time, finishing with 14 points each. Ten of Haire’s 14 points came in the opening frame.

Also finishing in double-digits was Wilkerson who ended with 12 points. Wilkerson had a pair of 3-pointers in the opening frame to get his night started.

Other scorers for Sulphur Springs were Johnson with six points, Alexander with four points and Cason Arrington with two points.

The Wildcats play again Friday, in a road match against Texas High where the varsity is set to begin at 7 p.m. Sulphur Springs returns home Tuesday, Jan. 19 to host Marshall at 8 p.m. The Wildcats beat Marshall 68-48 the first time the two teams played.
