The Sulphur Springs Wildcats entered Christmas break last week after defeating Longview Pine Tree, 74-55 in their district opener. The win made the Wildcats 8-5 on the season after a rough start to the season.

Hoping to pick up where they left off in the 2019-2020 season, the Wildcats won just one of their first four games. With losses to Tyler Legacy, McKinney Boyd and Sherman, Sulphur Springs’ one win was a 85-28 blowout at home over North Lamar.

Since then the Wildcats have won seven of their last nine games. In that stint they have beaten Dallas Lincoln, 60-47; Rockwall, 47-44; Forney, 66-58; Paris, 69-60; Royse City, 57-38; Mesquite Horn, 52-43; and Pine Tree, 74-55.

Sulphur Springs has also kept the score close in every game they’ve played until the very end, excluding one loss to Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy Dec. 15. Faith Family is currently No. 1 in Class 4A. All of their other losses have been by single-digits, including a four-point loss to Tyler Legacy, a 71-64 loss to McKinney Boyd, a three-point loss to Sherman and a 62-61 loss to Naaman Forest which ended with Naaman Forest winning on a buzzer beater.
