Will host Mount Pleasant in scrimmage
SULPHUR SPRINGS— After the UIL pushed back start dates for 5A-6A football, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats are finally able to get their season underway with their opening scrimmage this Thursday. The Wildcats will host Mount Pleasant with the varsity scrimmage beginning at 7 p.m.
This will be Coach Greg Owens’ first chance to see how his team looks in live action this year. The Wildcats return a lot of talent who were getting varsity experience for the first time last season and hope to have a strong 2020.
After their scrimmage, Sulphur Springs will have their season opener Friday, Sept. 25 on the road against Frisco Wakeland with kickoff at 7 p.m. After that, the Wildcats will return home for a pair of games, the first on Friday, Oct. 2 against Lovejoy, and then they will have their homecoming game against Hallsville. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m.
After their three non-district games, the Wildcats will begin the district portion of their season. Their district schedule is:
• Friday, Oct. 16, Sulphur Springs @ Crandall at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Oct. 23, Ennis @ Sulphur Springs at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Oct. 30, Sulphur Springs @ Royse City at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 6, Corsicana @ Sulphur Springs at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 13, Sulphur Springs @ Greenville at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Nov. 20, Sulphur Springs @ Forney at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 4, North Forney @ Sulphur Springs at 7:30 p.m. (Senior Night)
Tickets for Thursday’s scrimmage against Mount Pleasant must be purchased online at www.ssisd.net. Tickets are $2 each.
