Wildcats keep winning streak alive in road win

LINDALE --- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats traveled to Lindale Friday night for their second district matchup of the year. The Wildcats entered the game with nine straight without a loss, winning five and tying in four.

Lindale got the game started, scoring within the first 10 minutes of the game, leaving Sulphur Spring to play from behind early. Despite numerous chances, the Wildcats were never quite able to answer back for a huge portion of the game. Finally, with 1:30 left

Finally, with 1:30 left to play, Alejandro Diosdado scored the neutralizing goal on an assist from Kevin Yanez and forced the game to go into overtime.

With 1:15 left in overtime, Yanez was able to get the ball to Omar Hernandez on a through ball, and Hernandez knocked it in to give the Wildcats the win.

"This was an insane game," Coach Alexi Upton said. "This was amazing and shows the fight in our guys. I'm so proud, and we're ready to go challenge for the district title!"

The JV team was able to get the win as well, defeating Lindale, 4-0. Andrew Garcia knocked in a pair of goals for the Wildcats. Uriel Santacruz and Manuel Vega each had a goal as well.

Sulphur Springs plays again on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at home against Mount Pleasant. This will be their first home district game. The JV team starts at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
