After a close 4-3 loss to Lufkin on Thursday night, the Wildcats continued their weekend on Saturday with games against Jacksonville and Forney.

Sulphur Springs took on Jacksonville in their first game of the day and got a big penalty kick goal from Omar Hernandez in the final minutes of the game to get the win.

“Great game. It was a high-flying and playoff-like atmosphere,” Coach Alexi Upton said. “I’m so proud of the competition in our boys.”

Jacksonville entered the game ranked No. 3 in the region and is the team that beat Sulphur Springs in the opening round of the playoffs last year.

In their final game of the Longview tournament, the Wildcats lost a close 2-1 game to Forney. Kevin Yanez scored the lone goal for Sulphur Springs on a penalty kick.

The Wildcats will play again on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at West Mesquite staring at 7:15 p.m.
