FORNEY- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats had a busy weekend, playing four games in the Forney tournament.

Their first game was Thursday were they took on Ennis, falling 4-0.

“We fell apart early, gave up a penalty kick and overall could not finish,” coach Alexi Upton said.

Sulphur Springs had a pair of games Friday, starting with a 2-2 tie against Mesquite Poteet. Omar Hernandez was responsible for both Sulphur Springs goals, one coming on a penalty kick, and the other being unassisted.

“We had a bad start again. We are struggling out of the gate and having to play catch up,” Upton said.

In their second game of the day the Wildcats took on South Oak Cliff, and Edgar Salazar got the scoring started with a goal assisted by Alex Yanez. Hernandez followed that with a goal of his own, assisted by Josh Tavera and Uriel Santacruz added a cushion goal, leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 win.

“It was a better result,” Upton said. “We got the win we desperately needed. Everyone got in and we played really well.”

Saturday the Wildcats took on Seagoville in their final game of the tournament. Santacruz scored the only goal of the day, propelling the Wildcats to a 1-0 win.

“Second win of the year, I’m very proud of the boys rebounding and changing our formation,” Upton said. “We had good fight from our kids.”

Sulphur Springs has a record of 2-2-1 after the Forney tournament and will have a chance to add on to that with another tournament this weekend, this time in Wylie.
