After opening the Whataburger Tournament at Mansfield Legacy with a big win over 6A Atascasita, Sulphur Springs kept the momentum going, facing another, bigger opponent in Lewisville.

It was a close game from the opening tip and would stay that way up until the final buzzer with scores of 13-11, 26-21 and 42-36 at the of each of the first three quarters. Lewisville was able to outscore the Wildcats in the final quarter, but Sulphur Springs was able to hold on to the win as the final score was 64-60.

Sadaidriene continued his strong campaign, having a 22-point night, with Cameron Kahn right behind him, finishing with 16. Grayson McClure and Boo Wilkerson each had 8, La’modrick Johnson 6 and Justin Haire 4.

In game three, Sulphur Springs took on South Grand Prairie in the semifinals in a close game that was tied 26-26 at the half. The third quarter would be the downfall for the Wildcats, as they were outscored 16-6.

Despite cutting the deficit in the fourth, the final score ended with South Grand Prairie winning, 50-46.

Sadaidriene Hall led the team again with 17 points. Other scorers for the Wildcats were McClure 9, Wilkerson 9, Cameron Kahn 7, Haire 2 and Johnson 2.

In the third place game, a great second half in which the Wildcats outscored Desoto 36-22 helped them get the win, 61-43.

Hall and McClure each finished with 12 points, and Wilkerson was right behind them with 11. Kahn ended with 9, Haire 4 and Justin Brock 3.

“The boys did a great job over the weekend and represented SSHS very well. It was an outstanding tournament, and we went 3-1 against some top-ranked 6A teams in the state.” Coach Clark Cipoletta said. “We believe we got better as a team, and it will get us ready for District play.”

The Wildcats are now 15-6 on the season and will play again on Friday Jan. 3 in Princeton. The freshmen team will start at 5 p.m. with JV and Varsity to follow.
