Wildcats fall on the road in final zone game

Davis tallies 3 touchdowns

GREENVILLE - The Sulphur Springs Wildcats traveled to Greenville Friday, hoping to get a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The Wildcats got off to a very strong start, putting up 14 points in the opening quarter. The Sulphur Springs defense held Greenville to 13 points in the frame, and the Wildcats entered the second quarter with a one-point lead.

The Wildcats were able to add another touchdown in the second quarter, while Greenville found the end zone twice, and the Lions led 27-21 going into the half.

The Sulphur Springs offense slowed down a bit in the second half, managing to score just six points in the final two quarters. The Lions added another 20 points in the second half, and won the game by a score of 47-27.

Sulphur Springs quarterback Kaden Wallace ended the game with 97 passing yards, completing 11 of his 20 attempts. Sophomore quarterback Matthew Mitchell completed one pass for four yards.

The Wildcats offense was led by senior running back Caden Davis. Davis had 135 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries. Wallace had a big game on the ground as well, picking up 118 rushing yards on 10 tries. Juniors Dougie Deloney and JJ Hall each had 25 rushing yards.

CJ Williams led all receivers in both catches (7) and receiving yards (64). Junior Matthew Sherman was the next leading receiver with 23 yards on three catches.

Defensively the Wildcats were led by a group of seniors. Landry Meskimen and Kohlson Ivery each had one sack in the game and Robbie Hanks had the only Sulphur Springs interception of the night.

Wyatt Smithson led the team in tackles with eight. Just behind him were Meskimen and Ryan Carrillo who each had six tackles.

The Wildcats travel to Crandall this Friday where they will kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
