Girls fall to Liberty-Eylau 55-49

Both Sulphur Springs basketball varsity teams fell to Thanksgiving week opponents with the girls clipped by the Liberty-Eylau Leopards 55-49 Nov. 25 and the boys falling to the Port Allen (Louisiana) Pelicans 60-50 at the Duncanville Hoop-fest Saturday in their first season loss.

The girls’ overall record moves to 2-5 for the season, while the boys go to 3-1.

The 5A No. 5 boys will host Paris at home today in a battle of the Wildcats beginning with the ninth grade team at 5 p.m. The varsity team is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. or after the junior varsity boys’ game.

Paris, which is ranked No. 17 in Class 4A in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches rankings, has a 4-0 start to their season with their last win coming from an away game at 3A No. 19 Commerce Saturday. The Paris Wildcats won 59-41.

The girls will travel to Terrell to take on the Lady Tigers today with the tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. Terrell is looking to stop a two-loss skid during the week of Thanksgiving when they lost to 4A No. 8 Canton 57-24 and 1A No. 16 Saltillo 76-21.
