Wildcats to face Lufkin in Bi-District round of playoffs

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats are set to face Lufkin Monday at Tyler Junior College in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. The game will start at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats ended their regular season with a win in Tuesday’s senior night against Lindale to finish second place in Class 5A District-15. Sulphur Springs finished the season with an overall record of 25-8, which was good enough for them to finish No. 10 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll.

The Wildcats finished the season strong, going 8-2 in district play and winning 13 of their final 15 games. Their district wins include beating No. 24 Mount Pleasant, 72-54; Texas High, 64-55; Royse City, 69-43; Lindale, 67-41; Greenville, 63-52; Texas High, 57-48; Royse City, 72-62; and Lindale, 58-45.

Sulphur Springs ends the season with some very impressive nonconference wins as well, including a 55-53 win over No. 3 in Class 6A Killeen Ellison, a 61-59 win over No. 11 in Class 6A Atascocita, and a 57-46 win over No. 3 in Class 5A Shadow Creek.

Sulphur Springs and Lufkin only have one game each against a common opponent. Early in the season on Dec. 5 Sulphur Springs beat A&M Consolidated, 68-63. Lufkin had a similar outcome, beating them, 66-62, on Dec. 19.
